Also interesting the 777 takes out gates 62-64-66. That's a lot of real estate given up for the group E aircraft. Are the other gates that can handle group E or F aircraft without taking up 2-3 adjacent gates?

Just a short time before there was a AC 319 parked on 64 next to the 77W on the webcam, maybe its just a illusion of taking up the spots?

The AC 777 in that pic taken at YEG is a -300ER (Timetable code: 77W). And yes, there is a difference of over 10 m between the -200 and -300. Specifically, 63.7 m (209' 1") and 73.9 m (242' 4"), respectively.

An even longer variant, the 777-9X is planned with a length of 76.5 m (250' 11").

The older Air Canada 777 have 9 seats across. The newer ones are 10 across. Unfortunately the trend across many of the airlines is to more to 10 across seating on the newer 777. That gives you 17 inch wide seats.

In comparison, WestJet 737 also have 17 inch seating while Air Canada Airbus aircraft have 17.8 inch seats.

Air Canada announced a recently that over time they would be moving from the Airbus 320 series to the Boeing 737 series. Soon both WestJet and Airbus will have the slightly narrower seats all around.

New hotel looks ok, sadly the roof element was not designed in such a way to conceal the RTUs...

US departures is night and day now, although that massive hall post check-in is a bit odd.

Coming back early this am, customs and luggage was 20-25mins, even with 3 flights arriving at the same time... me thinks something hit the fan from that experience a couple of weeks ago.

That hall is odd, but I believe that is there for future expansion from the drawings. This was your first time through the US departures? I think the best thing are the new lounges, like the Premium Plaza options...feels like I'm back travelling in Asia were they have many locations. Nice way to start a flight.

Yes the Hall was built to acomidate futre bridges.

Yes, the first hall just prior to security on the US side is a bit odd but I think you're right in that it's to accommodate further expansion. There's room to add a couple more gates on the east side of the hammerhead, I believe, or IIRC, that's where future expansion (15-20 yrs) will adjoin the current building to a new one paralleling airport road. Speaking of the hammerhead/transborder gates, I love the new waiting area and even find the selection of food outlets to be quite adequate. Compare this to a few years ago... Yikes. I'll be going thru there once again in a couple months. Can't wait to escape this dreary/dirty winter.

Leduc County lobby group to fight Edmonton annexation plan

EDMONTON - A lobby group has been formed to fight Edmonton’s plan to annex 15,600 hectares of Leduc County.

The Leduc County Coalition, made up of business owners, land owners and county residents, wants to stop the annexation and force the city to work on a plan to benefit the entire region, according to a Monday news release.

“Annexing huge tracts of productive farmland, prime commercial and industrial land and our regional airport just isn’t right,” co-chair Clarence Shields says in the release.

I didn't realize Leduc had a regional airport. Since they're busy protecting that one, then Edmonton should get to annex the International. Besides, I'm not sure Leduc International would be as successful without the million people to the north of it using the facility. Give $$$ where it's due, FFS.

I was quite surprised to see that Icelandair doesn't fly to Dublin, was looking at flight options to go to a wedding in Ireland summer '15 and hoped to do a few days in Iceland on the way with the family (using the YEG flight).

I guess it will be BA and the 787 from YYC for us (of course the avgeek in me is pretty excited about that).

You got to love how those trying to prevent annexation are making it seem like they are standing up to sprawl.

If the County of Leduc was interested in maintaining this area as agricultural they wouldn't have multiple area structure plans for this area (Crossroads and a tentative highway 19 industrial area that has stalled because Alberta Transportation cant get their shit together). The county wants this area for one purpose....industrial land....and they are playing the local farmers like fiddles to gain their support blaming the big bad CoE.

If you want Nisku II, don't support annexation. it will become a shithole just like Nisku over time. Just another municipality pissing away what should be an excellent source of tax revenue for the region.

Highlights of 2013 at EIA

Record Passenger Numbers: 2013 was the busiest year in EIA history with 6,983,000 passengers served; 306,000 more than in 2012.

Domestic 5,312,226 = 4% growth
US Transborder 1,264,796 = 7.7% growth
International 406,207 = 3.4% growth
Overall 6,983,229 = 4.6% growth – all time record!
Business Aviation: In addition to regularly scheduled airline passenger service, corporate charter flights from the private terminals at EIA had increased by 30% in 2013, to nearly 26,000 landings.
