Here's a dash cam video (ridiculously sped up), showing the drive from Baie Comeau to Lab City. You can see for yourself how much of the drive is still gravelled.

Correct. The last 4 km is already four lanes and divided, but not freeway standard.

Eventually, yes, highway 69 will cease to exist and the 400 will extend to Sudbury.

I believe a phase 4 of A35 work will grade separate the last 4km, right? Hopefully they don’t put it off too long after phase 3 is done.

It looks as if MTQ might need to construct another carriageway and turn one of the existing ones into a service road south of Philipsburg to maintain property accesses.

Yes, once the 4 lanes are complete, there is plans to rename it 400. That will make it the first 400 series highway in Northern ON.

It has always intrigued me that road signs above the road in new brunswick are angled skyward, while elsewhere in north america, to my knowledge, the signs are angled downward (as in Quebec) or without inclinations.

In Quebec, the reason for the downward tilt according to the MTQ, is to allow vehicle headlights to sufficiently illuminate the signs at night.

Weird - not sure why signs would be tilted upward like that (in NB).
