https://globalnews.ca/news/6914767/leduc-county-leaves-regional-transit-services-commission/

This slipped under the radar, but the regional transit commission is already breaking up before even getting off the ground. It's understandable that municipalities are cutting back due to covid-imposed austerity, but still disappointing nonetheless.

Its almost to the point where the province will have to step in and organize this.

This has to be amalgamated. We cant have all these different Transit authorities with their own priorities.

The Province, under current management is not capable of leadership.

The province could care less about regional transit. They have a big enough issue supporting municipalities as it is.

They care about leadership in areas that vote for them, like Fox Creek. Haha.

From the story:

“We might not be interested right now, but as it grows [and] as it gets implemented, Leduc County will always be interested in regional projects and regional support.”

So translated it seems to mean, you guys to all the work, and once it's up and running, then we'll look at joining.

The Province is on the record saying, if the regional municipalities don't get this straight the Province will intervene and make it happen.

It doesn't help that Edmonton screwed up the airport annexation. That just enabled Leduc.

Why would they piss off regional municipalities which are solidly UCP to please Edmonton, the opposition stronghold?

Yeah very strange.....

As soon as i read this i laughed.

Edmonton may park its buses and LRT for the summer, Mayor Don Iveson said Tuesday.

We have a very weak Mayor now. Its like we had a 50 goal scorer in the past...but now we have a 10 goal scorer who is to slow and takes to many penalty minutes. Just my arm chair opinion.

Your guess is as good as mine. These days all parties flip flop on agendas like a fish out of water. Yeah...we will see.

I think it's a strategy to get media attention and higher government aid.

I think Iveson is playing the same doom/gloom scenario that got Vancouver's mayor laughed out of the room by his NDP compatriots in power in Victoria. He took scorched earth worst case numbers to the province, cap in hand, and they saw right though the craziness of his assertions and didn't give him a dime. Crazy days.
