That is sad. Council has contemplated taking this one down too to restore the area, but given it's recent success and new level of investment in the team and stadium, I suspect that it will remain for years go come (thankfully).

Just need to sort out better transit options and consider building a bit of a district to the north/NW with a pub, coffee and some other elements.

It looks like there are lots of options for intensifying the area. I assume the LRT goes nowhere near the area...

Yes the nearest LRT stop is a 15 to 20 min walk away. But the stadium is very bike accessible. And Wheelchair accessible so you get good parking.

Slap some bus lanes on 98th Avenue NW and run event buses between Government Centre and Muttart stations.

What's with the awnings added inside the bowl?

Also, pretty sure I've seen that guy before. Just loves complaining. Ok, the grass is maybe money wasted, but that's a small fraction of the entire renovations. And he wants to, what build a new stadium (cause that's not a waste) in a suburban location with surface parking for tailgating? We're not the U.S. Far more of a full experience by having it Downtown. BC Place seems to have the best location compared to the few others they pointed out. And getting people in and out; we've been doing this since it was built in 1983. This isn't a new challenge. The Skytrain is more efficient than 100% car modal share in those other places, where there's nothing else to do after the game.

BC Place, though not as iconic as Olympic Stadium in Montreal, has been far better utilized over the years.

The demolition of the baseball stadium at Foothills is indeed tragic. The decline of minor-league baseball across the country has been really unfortunate. I hope we can one day see the resurgence of either an affiliated or independent league that brings minor pro teams back across the country.

Hopefully once the Fieldhouse and Scotia Place are complete, the city can look into a new baseball stadium somewhere else. I have a feeling that upgrading or replacing McMahon will take priority though.

Ottawa has had five minor league baseball teams over the last 20 years (15 years between the first one closing shop and the latest one launching). I'm really happy the City never gave up on baseball and our Triple-A stadium (now hosting the Frontier League).

The Ottawa Titans attracted 2,106 fans per game on average last season, in the 10,000 seat stadium. That sounds bad, but we're 8th in attendance in an 18 team league. It's kind of fun being able to buy tickets for a particular seat, but then sit just about anywhere we want during the game (find some shade!).

We're far from the heydays of the Ottawa Lynx, the Expos' farm team, but it seems to be going relatively well.

Council voted to not pursue at the time with a private entity leading it.

Here's hoping it comes back post-election (next week) as something of a revised proposal.

It would be awesome for the stadium and entire area.

I think the baseball stadium in Okotoks will be all we have for greater Calgary. Seaman stadium is supposed to be fairly nice and can be easily expanded to have more actual seating instead of seating on the grass berm.

While we're talking baseball, shoutout to Winnipeg's baseball stadium, home of the Goldeyes.

The only people getting this great view of the Winnipeg skyline seen here are the outfielders. Still, I think it's one of the nicer ballparks in Canada.

I remember the Goldeyes being pretty well supported growing up in Winnipeg and excitement for when CanWest Global Park was being built. I also remember really liking the logo and the ball caps being popular at school.

Was shocked to see this is now their logo:

Baseball team rebrands to look like…a fish producer

Always blows my mind when sports teams go from a great logo to something absolutely terrible, but this really does look like a frozen fish brand or seafood chain restaurant. Hope this logo doesn't last long.

Winnipeg's baseball stadium does look pretty nice, it's fairly new as well isn't it? Winnipeg really did a great job with the entire Forks area.

Originally opened in 1999, and it has had one or two expansions in the time since.

Probably something to do with the stadium being owned by the province.

The awning is something they have used to make it feel like a more intimate venue when only using the lower bowl, also helps with crowd noise, but I always thought it looked half assed with the gaps in between
