Probably have a better chance of winning the cup then finishing the construction.

Will be interesting to see what sort of lipstick they put on the ice district and surrounding area to make it look pretty

The pressure for the Edmonton Eskimos to change their name is mounting.

What's a good alternative? I vote for Edmonton Empire, although I'd be ok with just Edmonton Esks.

They have been moving towards Empire for some time now.

Elks - historical
Esks - likely not, although a happy medium?
Empire - Easiest? However, some are saying it is too 'colonial', yup, this is the world we now live in...

Loved this though

Edmonton Winters - abbreviated EW and no one would want to face us.

Empire? That won't last five seconds, because reconciliation.

Bolding by me.
For many of us this was always the world. Just because people are now facing consequences for their words doesn't mean the world has changed, only their world has changed.

20 years ago I would've had to laugh off a racist joke at my expense, today people are thinking twice before even saying that joke. I do not lament this change. The racism stung the same 20 years ago as it does today, just because the guy telling the joke can't tell it anymore without consequence, people say phrases like: "PC culture", "the world is changing" "people are so sensitive".

This isn't the world we now live in just because you're late to the party.

not only isn't this just "the world we now live in", hopefully it's a world that moves us one step closer to the world we all should live in...

Empire is lame. Zero connection to the city whatsoever.

zero connection to the city?

you mean sort of like the name (not the team) that's being replaced?

i would think one of the things the team would like to retain would be the "double e" logo and empire would maintain that.

i would guess that they're thinking about empire in the sense of one member of a group controlling the others in the same manner as edmonton's football team once ruled the cfl or like edmonton's hockey team once ruled the nhl.

as for other names that would retain the "double e", not only would "edmonton edge" also maintain it, it might even attract a certain browser as a sponsor in addition to being able to capitalize on slogans such as cutting edge, hard edge, leading edge etc. even just talking or writing about the team as "the edmonton edge" becomes a bit of a slogan in its own right.

Commonwealth is built overtop of Rat Creek (named after the muskrat), so the Edmonton Rats would actually make sense, funny enough.

We are still ENERGY related province, so what about 'Edmonton Energies' keeping the green and gold plus the iconic "EE"?
