It's amazing how just 2 towers can have such a big impact on a skyline. Those 2 towers have helped rig Vancouver of it's drab tabletop skyline which is even more amazing when you consider that neither is over 200 meters.

This is where topography has helped, the towers themselves are 197 meters (thought window crane is at 201 apparently) and 188 meters, but their elevations are both above 200 meters due to being on higher ground.

Of course this does not make the buildings taller when standing near their base, but the hump in topography in the center of downtown does make them look taller in nearly all Vancouver skyline photos, since nearly all photos start from sea level (essentially, the tallest towers are over 200 meters in height at their tops from sea level).

Shot, makes sense in my mind but actually having trouble explaining it now, too many drinks last night...

So, to try again, in the photo above the first row of towers are at sea level, but the tallest towers are at elevations around 20 or so meters above sea level, helping them tower more over the foreground towers in Vancouver skyline shots than their built height alone would usually allow.

Okay, maybe that makes sense.

Either way, that is an amazing picture!

/\ I think we all got it. Montreal's tallest towers get the same benefit from many angles, being build on the elevated slope of Mount Royal. There is a good 40/50 meters difference between the lowest part of town (old Montreal, GRiffintown) and boulevard Réné Lévesque, where the tallest are build.

Same in Toronto where the Yorkville skyline is at an elevation - about a 35m incline from downtown.

Tour de la Bourse, and le 1000 are at a disadvantage I would say. Both towers (especially Bourse) are at a lower inclination than most other towers. This makes Montréal's tallest building look as tall as PVM and others. Tour de la Bourse, at a 190m, often looks like it's 160. Now imagine if le 1000 AND Bourse had both been built on RL?

Example: look at how puny Bourse and le 1000 look seen from the olympic stadium tower.

I like Grace Residences. Vancouver looks more wintery than Toronto with the mountains.

It will cool to watch Hamilton densify considering it's got a nicely spread out skyline. Lots of different focal points.
