If things go according to plan, the Downtown tram will be extended north to the BeltLIne and Ansley Mall, with another line on North Avenue, within 5 to 6 years. That's the most we can hope for in that area. This said, I go to Whole Foods almost daily and drive only 10% of the time - the area has very good bus service between the 2, 102, 16, and 99.

If the region can't even fund heavy rail to the Emory/Clifton Road area, there's no way the significant less dense (even at buildout) Ponce City Market area would justify it.

if we're talking about *today*, there are only a couple of corridors i think really need heavy rail ITP. those are west midtown and the clifton corridor, and possibly to the international terminal and hapeville.

30 years from now is a different story.

i suspect 30 years from now there will be demand for a second subway line under peachtree and through buckhead hitting the buckhead triangle.

30 years from now we're going to be talking about light rail to lakewood, down 166 to greenbriar, along buford highway, and along stewart avenue (metropolitan). this sounds extreme now, but i'll bet you a year's salary these are the conversations we're going to be having then.

i think it's important that our transit discussions start becoming proactive rather than reactive. this is how we've planned roads for years, and we need to start thinking about transit in the same sort of way.

of course, due to lack of funding, we're a good 20 years behind where we need to be on the transit front, so we need to prioritize. but i don't think it's a bad idea to start thinking to the future when we talk about transit.
Black people need transit too...those would probably be very successful lines.

Those areas of Stewart (Metropolitan), Lakewood, and Greenbriar have experienced significant reductions in population in recent years - whether red, yellow, black, or white. I don't think you'll be seeing much heavy or light rail in those areas beyond what Marta already has to the airport.

Ponce City market/O4W park area is adding like over 1k units at this current moment. If all of those apartments get filled with 1-3 people on average, you're easily adding 2k-4k psm density in that area alone...You're underestimating just how much density these apartments are about to add along with the traffic. BoHo is over 300 units if I can recall. If you use the 3 person average, that's over 100 SFHs within a few acres. Not to mention, PCM becoming a MAJOR destination itself.

PCM is setting up to become a legendary landmark in Atlanta. Why do you think so many apartment buildings are sprouting up all of a sudden? This area is becoming one of the more denser parts of the city. Don't be surprised to see two more apartment buildings pop up in the next couple of years in this little area alone.

This area will need transit soon. The traffic on Ponce and North Avenue will ramp up in this area.

So true.

They're adding something like 6,000 apartments in Buckhead, which already has them coming out the ears. Plus they have all that shopping and office development. It would be nice to see them run a couple of streetcar lines through there.

Greenbriar looks nothing like Lakewood or Stuart Ave...there haven't been reductions in population there because there are stable, occupied neighborhoods located around Greenbriar and along 166 (the original mention, not Greenbriar). Headland Drive leading up to Greenbriar is a good example of this...well-kept brick ranches with neat yards and lots of trees. I doubt most people are familiar with it - when is the last time you were there? Some areas of Stuart have seen a renaissance in recent years as well, with refurbished loft buildings and new apartments.

Marta is heavily used on the Southside...it seems like that is where they would want to expand, but that isn't an area that gets anyone's attention. And it isn't a question really, the area is 80% black.

I think using a THREE person average is a little absurd. I would just use whatever number of a apartments that say one, two, or three bedrooms. Keep in mind a lot of people have two bedrooms, and its just one person living there. They simply want the space for an office and or other various reasons.

Agreed. When I do population projections for work I use 1.25 to 1.50 for intown multifamily. Household size in the City of Atlanta has decreased significantly over the last decade. That's partially why the City didn't add much population between 2000 and 2010, despite the addition of 30,000 new housing units (the other big reason was the foreclosure crisis in certain areas, and, allegedly, the loss of public housing).

The first phase of the PATH trail along Georgia 400 will begin construction this month. This thing will be a game changer when it finally connects with the Beltline!

does anyone have a link to something bigger than a thumbnail image of the map of PATH400?

Strangely, part of it shows up on Google Maps, but just near Lindbergh.

Well my fellow friend name josh, told me theirs a rendering going on near the "BOA" All he told was it's going to be tall but not taller than the BOA but around it's height. If any of you guys know about this rendering please feel free to let me know because its sounds like its going to change the skyline.

Also I heard about the MMPT are going to bring plenty of 30-40 towers around it for "growth in the area" with an open space part where you can see the front of Philips I assumed, on the following go if this other very tall mysterious tower looks around 700ft is a go that's a plus their.

Also the "GWCC" will let us know are the going to construct a tower (800-1200) hotel room tower in This year around summer or earlier "depends on there sayings".
__________________________________________________________________________
Went to Greenbriar today ,(SHOCKED) their remodeling the whole area and the west end looks like their getting a face lift (both of them) what they actually need to do is remodel these old *** malls ,.....they use to be the thing back in the 80's, now they're not they they just literally downgraded their selves. But the marta stops that go buy greenbriar always pack, like literally people are standing around the stop, that was too surprising but, like someone said its denser on the south side, but it would be nice to see some light rail going around greenbriar and campbelton rd, we already know westend getting light rail, beltline + streetcar, the streetcar is talking about extending it all the way to fort McPherson -East Point, As you guys know they shut it down, But they are about turn it to a mix-used redevelopment (heard someone said something like atlantic station) I found a few renderings for that development their seems really nice and predictable.
__________________________________________________________________________
So as you can see all we need is some good transit, and also come up with something new, for the world like (ride in gondolas like in stone mountains or six flags) and another high-speed rail for just the Atlanta area, and another heavy rail besides Marta , because Marta doesn't go anywhere.
And we need to come up with something new, something eye catching for the city, like turn the wsbtv (tower or cell tower into something cool) like make it go a few stories up (because its around 1,000 ft. tall) and it can be used for something like put a restaurant on the top with eye catching views of the cities skyline, change the bridges over the connector with some lights or something the like the ones in NYC (Brooklyn Bridge) Casinos, bars and grill, time square, vegas, hong kong ,chinatownish , we need more culture to the city the more and the better things we known for the growth of population/tourist we will have, turn the TURNER FIELD INTO A CONCERTHALL, THEME PARK, Baseball museum, something cool just don't tear it down use it for something atleast (BRAVES JUST WANT A NEW STADIUM JUST BECAUSE OF THE FALCONS GETTING ONE) if you look at it all they doing is keep on comparing everything the falcons doing they are trying to do, they even have the same developer who designing the falcons one), Make Atlanta a brand new city where people can live, laugh, play, eat, joy and work here just like midtown. (this is my dream)

(sorry for the quick comment LOL stuck in traffic)

Dude, you've been saying that skyscrapers are going to be built for ages now...this is like your 4th rumor in a month? Unless there some type of concrete evidence or something more than just 'My friend said a skyscraper is going to be built near the BoA', then please...just...stop.

There's a powerpoint here: http://www.authorstream.com/Presentation...1351-ga400-trail-presentation-30-design/

Not sure if it's the latest version but it does give more detail.

It'll be great when the city has a full network of trails!

I think the point is that this isn't the place to announce rumors. I'm sure we all hope for more, but this forum is for actual development proposals and updates...not for something you heard about what someone else heard.

Does this building have a portion that comes up to the corner at Peachtree and North? In the photo, the lower right portion looks like there is nothing happening.

FOUND THE "MMPT" SET TO BE BUILD IN "2015"
______________________________________________

__________________________________________________________________________
PHASE 1 OF THE ATLANTA CONNECTOR PROJECT STARTS END OF THIS YEAR:

Over the last year Midtown Alliance and Central Atlanta Progress/ADID have raised $5.3mm from public and private sources--including funding by GDOT and SRTA--to fund Phase One of the Connector Gateway project which will be completed by the end of 2014. This first phase of improvements is designed to enhance the visual experience for commuters and visitors who travel through Atlanta via the connector and to call attention to Atlanta’s signature thoroughfare – Peachtree Street. Ultimately, the Connector Gateway Project will be complimented by additional bridge enhancements with other upgrades to highway fencing, retaining walls and landscaping as funding becomes available.

The Peachtree Street Bridge at the northern end of Midtown, between the Buford Highway Connector and Deering Road, frames the initial view of Atlanta for motorists traveling south on I-85. The centerpiece of the bridge enhancement project is a monumental arch designed to have a bold visual impact from the interstate and to create a sense of arrival into Atlanta’s urban core. At night, dramatic lighting will accentuate the arching forms above the fence and highlight the structure of the bridge. A new back-lit sign announcing Peachtree Street will identify the bridge to motorists passing beneath. Additionally, the bridge surface will be upgraded with a new center median and added landscaping along the sidewalks making it more pedestrian and cyclist friendly.

The Peachtree Street Bridge located between Pine Street and Ivan Allen Blvd. will be a bookend to the northern bridge and include all of the same elements.
