What great news....Dr. Nasser could become the most important person to influence Saskatoon in terms of recent history. Thank goodness he has the vision (and hopefully resources) to bring this project to fruition. Sounds like there will be no activity until Spring though....too bad, as it would have been good to at least see a grader on site!

I have to wonder if the fact that other 'local investors' are now coming on board if this might impact projects like 275 Second??? Could this be the same group planning this and they are now joining Nasser?? I believe investors with this kind of capitol are limited in Saskatoon, so the pool may be small. Regardless of the impact, the River Landing project is the one that needed to proceed!! This will be interesting to follow to see, if we ever find out, who the other investors with Dr. Nasser are...

You are correct that the pool of investors with this type of funds is limited in Saskatoon and I find it very unlikely 2sven5 wants anything to do with Lake Placid. However, Saskatoon has National and International appeal given its hot economy (now just starting to heat up again) and now with BHP giving us international press. So I think Nasser may be able to find an out of province partner to help fund this given everyone's interest in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan at the moment.

Either way who ever brings the cash forward and gets this done we will all be happy to welcome

Wow I couldn't believe it either, I never thought that Victory would take over the entire project. I think its probably the best possible thing that could have happened for everyone involved, the city gets the project that they wanted without the involvement of Lake Placid, Lake Placid from the sounds of things takes home some money I imagine for their previous work which may help them fill in their Calgary hole and Victory gets to control, build and reap the benefits of this project. Well done Dr. Nasser!

Like I said in the other forum, they should rename this project Kitty Landing, because it seems to have nine lives!

Let's hope Nasser and his company are the real deal, and that this time we actually see something happen. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but I'll still retain some healthy skepticism until the equipment is on site.

Great news for Saskatoon! I'm from Ontario and have been exploring my options as to where to possibly look for work when school's all said and done and the Toon' has seemed like an option as of late. I've followed this project closely from time to time and am glad Dr. Nasser's found a way to keep River Landing going. Keep the momentum going in the west!

If I were Mr. Nasser I would consider changing the name from Lake Placid. That name is associated with so much negativity and failure in the province and since Lake Placid has nothing to do with the project anymore then it would only make sense. Lake Placid is a city in New York and the name of a horror movie with a big shark in it, has nothing to do with Saskatoon. Even something generic like 'The Riverfront' would be better then Lake Placid.

Although I guess we should worry about getting it built first before we worry about that stuff.

I believe the project is called "River Landing Village". Lake Placid is the name of Lobsinger's company and is not otherwise attached to the development.

Maybe Victoriaville Village. Then they could put a gigantic hockey stick in the middle of the plaza rather than the ginormous Xmas tree.

Seriously though. Here's my top ten skyscrapers of Saskatoon list: Sturdy-Stone, Saskatoon Square, Franklin on 24th, McAskill Manor, La Renaissance Twin Towers, Murray Memorial Library, Delta Bessborough, Saskatoon Towers, CN Towers, and Second Avenue Lofts. Will be interesting to see what gets added, and subtracted, in the next little while.

Im loving all the hype about this project, really neat to see everybody stepping in, Nasser deserves a lot in return for what he has done for this city, also hands to Lake placid, because without them, this project would not have even existed on paper, it sucks they were not able to get money, but not everyone can right?, could i? no, could a lotta people in this city even try and do what they tried? no, so hands to them for trying to be positive and trying to get money, its unfortunate, but things happen, and i would imagine because we just hit a recession, obviously things are not easy. Im really glad this project is moving along, this will provide opportunity for jobs, especially in my trade, carpenter, and many of the other trades, i also hope this encourages other developers to come here and build etc, itl be exciting to see what is happening in our downtown in say 3 years.
