Yeah, there's no other towers that stood out as much as the 2 Bloors in my childhood and now they're hidden.

Manulife always seemed to me taller than the stumpy bank buildings.

Me too. This is a bit silly, but when I was growing up, the Yorkville cluster of HBC, CIBC and Manulife is what made me think that downtown Toronto (and its skyline) was in a bigger league than Calgary's (where I grew up). Toronto has grown so much since then.

Yorkville is going to be it's own downtown within a Downtown in its own right

That is a great canyon shot. Belongs in the eponymous thread.

I never really noticed how the One's colours complement those of the CIBC and old Bay tower.

That's a really good observation!. Now that you mention it, I really like that it does complement those towers.

Yeah, I've really enjoyed how harmonious the colours and basic design principles are to those office towers. The whole intersection feelts fairly unified, minus One Bloor (which still serves as a good reflective basis to let the other towers shine*)

A lot of people on UT are disappointed by the height "cut"/likely decision to build this to the previously approved height, but this is a very tall building for it's siting, and will be a very prominent building just like One Bloor East.

I'm excited to see what the crown looks like once we get to that point.

The HBC tower had bronze glass back in the day. CIBC has been part of redevelopment plans for the better part of two decades. The facade is overdue for a refresh. Any bets on grey when the time comes?

Like when they re-clad the 'Gold' Scotia Place in Edmonton in blue-grey glass.

As long as it doesn't end up like the old Simpsons Tower at the Eaton Centre I'll be happy.

dated pink granite and rose coloured glass

modern white granite(?) and charcoal coloured glass

I don't like pink granite so I wouldn't want it to become trendy again. Should I get what i want the number of pink granite buildings is firmly capped in the city. Every one modernized means one less pink granite tower in the city indefinitely.
On the other hand, White is still popular from the peak of white on white on white. The number of white clad buildings is only going to rise.

Darn, that reminds me: I wish Toronto had gotten the old Eaton's Centre towers, austere modernist beauties, though they would have meant the unacceptable removal of Old City Hall. They were proposed and scuppered in the mid-'60s.

They look cool but that amount of office space being added at that time wouldn't just mean the potential loss of Old City Hall (although I'm not sure why that's the only possible location they could have been built at). But also, the resulting drop in office demand may have meant office towers like FCP and CCW, completed im 1975 and 1972 respectively, may never have been built. I personally wouldn't cry too many tears over FCP as it was never one of my favourites, but I'd consider CCW to be a pretty big loss.
