I can guarantee you that your first point was a factor. They have schedules and budgets and grants to deal with, but it is just lazy or stubborn indifference not to make adjustments. They knew about the Regina Bypass schedule for 5 years.

As for the second point, I very much doubt that is an issue. They did not say there is any imminent safety issue. They merely said it is deteriorated such that it is not worth repairing.

I stopped giving city planners the benefit of the doubt years ago. The date for completion of the bypass was set years ago and I highly doubt that the bridge is in danger of collapsing.

I was in Saskatoon earlier this year and they had a construction project happening on Circle Dr (their Ring Rd). What astounded me was that they had a series of signs ahead of the zone like this:

- Construction zone ahead
- Use zipper merge
- Stay in current lane
- Merge now

And it worked. People stayed in both lanes until the actual pylons, and traffic flowed more smoothly. Today on the Ring Rd I was greeted to a 2km+ backup south of Assiniboia in one lane. I drove past everyone and merged at the zipper as everyone should. Today it worked, and people let me in. Other days, I'm not so lucky and have to wait (but it's always faster than waiting in line).

Zipper merging is the accepted standard for traffic flow, yet the city of Regina refuses to put up signage at construction zones telling people to do it. I've read that the mayor is against zipper merging, stating that it is "un-Canadian" (on a John Gormley interview). Is this true?

They should also put up signs on the Ring Rd on-ramps saying "accelerate to 100km/h Now."

Regarding the Wascana Creek bridge replacement on the Ring Road, it appears they are widening at least the northbound bridge as the City says they are extending the off ramp deceleration lane, which would require widening. I would also point out that there are actually 3 bridges. The 3rd is for the southbound on ramp and multiuse path. That bridge is much newer.

I can't see a location on that link. I was just curious if it was going further west where the edge of the current development is or north near the grocery store. It seems like there is a lot of focus on diversifying HL, yet none of that with other developments like the Greens.

The Towns, on the North edge of the Greens has at least two group homes that I'm aware of. It also features lots of semi-detached and up/down units that seem to be really popular with newcomers to Regina.

Lol hot take. Guess the guy living in the city for a couple decades isn't good enough for you. And who do you propose runs against him? Pat Fiacco? Lori Bresciani? The only possible improvement I could think of would be Andrew Stevens but from what I've heard he isn't interested.

I actually like Michael Fougere, and it also means a lot to me that he is the first Mayor in Regina to take part in the Pride flag raising, parade and festivities recognizing that community. Yes, of course, there are some areas for sure he could do better, but out of the current options, I think he is a good current option.
