The engineering of this latest round of LRT For Suburbanites has pretty much removed any hope of ever seeing a station at Jasmine.

Trains are for the suburbanites. The urbans and the poors and the renters can take buses.

Correction, they can take buses in the wrong direction so that they can transfer to a train.

OK, I don't usually follow the LRT Extension threads too closely, but I've just relocated a couple of pages worth of posts to the "Confederation Line (Stage 1)" and "Kanata LRT EA - Bayshore to Palladium" threads. I don't guarantee to have done it to everyone's satisfaction though

November Stage 2 East update. Here are a few highlights:

• 7,000 tons of ballast has been delivered and is being installed between Montréal Station and Jeanne d’Arc Station.
• Rail welding is complete at Montréal Station and underway at Place d’Orléans Station.
• A small section of test track is planned to be installed in December, west of Jeanne d’Arc Station.
• West abutment for the pedestrian bridge at Green’s Creek has been poured, ready for arrival of the bridge in February.
• Montréal Station construction is underway. Utility work on Montreal Road to connect to Montréal Station is ongoing.
• Concrete and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works are ongoing at Jeanne d'Arc Station.
• Concrete and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works are ongoing at Place d'Orleans Station.
• Footings and columns for the pedestrian bridge are underway at Place d'Orleans Station.

Not pictured in the December 3rd post above is Jeanne D'Arc Station which is so far along now that there are multiple columns reaching about as high as the bridge that crosses over the highway. The station is really taking shape and its an encouraging sight to behold! If it was easier for me to post photos online I would share one I took a while back but perhaps someone has something even more recent anyway! It's really getting tangible out here now.

Yup, Jeanne D'Arc is quite advanced. I expect to see a steel structure go up very soon.

Montreal rd. station is really moving along.

And wow.. 7,000 tons of ballast has been delivered?? That is a LOT. I believe a standard dump truck load is 18 tons/yards. They aren't supposed to carry more than per MTO weigh restrictions. That is 389 trucks worth.

When you consider it, that doesn't seem like all that much. A single truck could move that load in only a couple of months if it can get a few trips in each day, and the quarry on Bearbrook is fairly close.

In Montreal, they are using excavated material for the ballast along the REM. Wondering if they're using that kind of efficiency in Ottawa. Where does the excavated material go? What was done with all the downed trees?

I don’t know about excavated material but wherever possible they transplanted the trees.

Thanks for the invitation to share it with you! I have sent my picture of Jeanne D'Arc Station on December 7 to you. If you end up with the chance to post it here to share with others (along with Rail Fans), I would appreciate it. That way people could have a real sense of how far we have come there.

You're right.. I forgot about the quarry on Bearbrook.

I'd be curious to know how many truck trips the eastern extension requires in total, excavation, delivering rail, concrete, steel etc etc.

Must be 10s of thousands in total.
