RDF. Miserable but a bit milder.

A measurable amount of snow has fallen on the North Shore mountains, and more is to come.

It's been wet and cool at sea level. High of 9C today.

+8C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to +10C this afternoon.

Some weather hounds are predicting a nor'easter for the middle of next week.

Goodness - that's not weather photography, that's artwork you got going on giallo! Nice fall vibes there. I never thought of it until someone mentioned it, how my Victoria pics are warm with a lot of reds/orange (brick architecture, paint colours, landscape) while looking at yours Vancouver is definitely a cool green/blue city. How's the new camera and lenses working out for you?

True. Vancouver is a very blue/green city this time of year, and in the summer, it's more yellow/blue.

The new camera and lens are great. I'm still figuring out some of its quirks, but I'm very happy with it.

It is fun seeing different styles in photography.

My pictures also tend to lean towards more oranges / yellows / reds (aka warmth) like zoomer (maybe this is also why my muse for photography tends to be summer in the Okanagan / Thompson valleys and Fraser Canyon). I’m also big on symmetry and framing. Sadly, I haven’t had any time this last year for photography…

As for Giallo, his style is very different from mine. Giallo seems to like blues, dark greens, silver, and high contrasts.

We also all have different editing styles which will also play in.

Always neat to see how different the same cities are through the lenses of different photographers.

5C and mainly cloudy. November is usually our darkest month but this one in particular is testing us. Saw the sun for maybe an hour max.

Low of 2C this morning.

The warmspot was Upper Stewiacke, NS at 15.3C

Warmest low was Sable Island, NS at 9.1C. As a reference, the coldest it has dipped so far on the island is 2.5C.

giallo I like when you capture these street signs, the older and neglected the better

Last month, they replaced that Burrard Street sign that was stolen a few years ago

Although, we use to have that brown street sign at Burrard and Drake but someone stole it and it was never replaced

Cold and blustery, looking at a high of 0. Currently -1 in Toronto.

Parts of Southern Ontario (west of the GTA) got walloped by snow squalls coming of Lake Huron/Georgian Bay last night. In Toronto, we got nothing, some very minor accumulation in Mississauga.

The pattern for the next 2 weeks is cold, we could see lows around -10 which is well below average this time of year. I think we have a very good shot at a white Christmas this year.

Many weather stations in Vancouver, such as Vancouver Harbour, almost always freeze long after YVR’s first freeze.

Even in Kelowna the Kelowna airport by far has the coldest nights of any weather station that is or has ever been in and around Kelowna.

It’s just the way the cookie crumbles, but Halifax is by no means alone in this case.

On the bright side the inland effect of the airport in Halifax works in your favor for summer time heat.
Toronto isn't as extreme as some other examples, but follows this pattern generally.

Less lake moderation + higher elevation + less urban heat island effect.

Maybe next year we can do a city weather station freeze list! lol

I find that anyone's style of photography highly depends on the location they're shooting in. I definitely have a style that is prevalent throughout my work, but I'll naturally focus on certain things depending on the city.

My photography in Asia is very different from that in Vancouver, for instance, as I'd mostly shoot at night in Asia for various reasons (cities look better at night, it's not as hot). My photography in Asia is/was a lot more urban-focused as well. Vancouver is more mixed as there is so much nature mixed in to the urban fabric.

Actually, I far prefer warmer colour tones, but Vancouver doesn't really lean that way. As zoomer mentioned, it's a very blue/green city, so that's how the colours in my images come out. Shooting at night would change that, but I still haven't committed to a lot of night photography in Vancouver, which probably has to do with my location in the city. If I lived downtown, I'd shoot a lot more at night.

This was my style of photography in Asia. Very different from living in Vancouver.

Sorry for the thread hijack. Once I get talking about photography........

Back to the weather, it looks like Vancouver could drop below freezing this weekend.

Well we finally got our first real snowfall that will stick around till spring. Sun is coming out so its quite sparkly. EC says only 2cm but it looks like more. The north side of Edmonton probably got 5-6 cms.

Temps are around -9 but will slowly rise over the next few days. Roads are crappy right now but should get better through the day.

This should be a good base, Will be heading out for my first Fat bike ride of the season on Sunday. and weather looks good, -5.

Drive back from Saskatoon on Monday. The north Central prairies really need moisture. Dry and little snow.

I like BradfromTO's suggestion of a side competition with the most favourable city limits weather station. I get why airports are used but on the other hand in most instances they really don't reflect the typical weather residents of the city experience.

And such great Vancouver photos from everyone! It was this group that really inspired me to pick up my game and learn to take better photos - now I'm certainly not at giallo or metro-one level but I'm happy to share what I capture. And then you have Zepfancouver who takes construction video to another level - I've just started doing some basic ones on Youtube and realized quickly to include renderings of the project as you do, not as skillfully aligned and integrated of course. Metro-one, your YouTube videos are also very creative and show a personality that AI content can never match. Anyways kudos everyone, I know most times you don't get feedback, but believe me there's a lot of folks who appreciate your work and are inspired by it.

There are a bunch of different variables and while it's true that airports tend to be a bit colder, all else being equal, it's not true that they have to go inland or at elevation and so on. There are cities where the airports are right by the water, like here in Vancouver, or a place like Charlottetown which is so compact that the airport probably is pretty representative. Showing other weather stations will also not be "fair" or fully accurate but it is what it is, some weather data collected in a particular place.

I'm not that interested in the competitiveness aspect and in any case there are weather stations around the Gulf Islands and the like that sometimes don't get any temperature going down to 0 at all. It's more that the list is misleading because it's not explicit about airports and it often just doesn't accurately capture the weather. It happens to be a fun random number generator due to the high noise.

Honestly I'm just a weather nerd, so the more stations on the freeze list the more fun it would be for me. But I know that's not practical

We had some light snow today. In a very rare event we had squalls reaching us all the way from Georgian Bay.

This squall would likely be reaching NY State.
