One of the slides shows the new urban district connected to the LA river. Perhaps I just enjoy these multi-use trails but if downtown is connected to the LA River and the proposed 52-mile bike path, this will be a very significant improvement.

All this talk about the Union Station masterplan is great (although I dont agree with keeping and/or expanding bus services) - does anyone know if there is a completion timeline?

From a distance LA in general doesn't give a crap about other cities and doesn't find itself trying to follow a flow. If anything it forges a completely different path uninterested in its counterparts. That's why Hunter is mad. He thinks he knows how LA should grow... And quite frankly LA doesn't give a crap.

Lol so true. It's absolutely not a good thing - but so true.

LA has it's own identity (as it should). I'd say it's a love or hate city, and those who hate it don't have to live there.

I really like the potential. Who doesn't like parks.... Except homeless haters.

Anyway, for the large park to have legs, a plan for the railroads needs to occur. No plan for them means.... No park.

Anyone have $2 billion available, because that's what it will likely cost to relocate and rebuild the RR in a place that makes sense to them.

Absolutely. It's probably the most polarizing city on the planet and a testament to the notion that being different isn't necessarily a bad thing.

If you want to live in a "nice" and "clean-cut" city, move to Minneapolis.

And why must we look at everything in black and white terms? Nobody here believes in finding some middle ground?

Seriously, these naysayers and negative nancys don't have to live here. L.A. will not turn into NYC nor Chicago nor Boston no matter how badly these people want it to. Instead of the constant negativity, they can go move to one of those. So they don't have to "walk 20 minutes to get garlic". Haha.

There will never be a middle ground because some of these folk want a carbon copy of an east coast city.

Here are some of the images from the Union Station presentation, for those of us too lazy to read through the thing:

Thanks for posting those. They look great! Does anyone know if there is an estimated completion date?

Just convert the entire rear of Union Station into park space. Consolidate it with the LASHP and Piggyback Yard. That's about a 400-acre urban park.

It won't ever happen, but that's what should be done.

Why? Buses are an important mode of transit and many people use the bus to access local or regional rail. Although it hasn't caught on in California as much, the low-cost intercity buses (Megabus, Bolt Bus) are also an important transportation option and one of the fastest growing modes of transportation.

You're staring to sound like a troll. You've been on here like 2 weeks.

What do you think downtown is (or should be)? It's a dense urban city like sections of those cities you mentioned. It will be that and is moving towards that. Dense urban environments should have a lot of resources. Downtown does not yet, and that can be frustrating at times. For every expensive new restaurant we get so suburbanites like you can come here at night, we need more local markets and medium priced restaurants for people who ACTUALLY LIVE HERE.

This isn't a discussion about LA as a whole, it's about downtown specifically.

Who the hell is saying anybody hates it? There is a serious lack of nuance and understanding on this board. Just because I don't think everything is great about downtown doesn't mean I hate LA.

Don't you have a lawn to cut or a bbq to go to?

Definitely hyper-speed.......most cities don't move as fast. And yes, I understand the frustration of Hunter K and others. They want the finished product. Understandable. But that's not going to happen any time soon so why not enjoy the process.
