My bet is that it will be done by 2017. They are finding a developer with the flexibility of multiple lots. I think this will come together pretty fast now. I bet a year from now we will be where Portland is, ready with a design and location awaiting final city council approval.

By January of 2018 we will have the new terminal at the SLC Int. Airport open, a Convention Center Hotel, and the Eccles Performing Arts Center. All the little check boxes will be ticked off on our mid-sized city to do list. Then in the next decade we can hopefully get ourselves an NFL or MLB team . We're on course for 3,000,000 people by 2015. By 2025 we'll probably have 3,500,000+; it could happen.

UPAC is going to open in 2016... I wish 2017 was reasonable but it's not as much as I hoped, especially if shilo is getting torn down.

I understand Romney and Boyer's concern, but I am confident that McAdams is nailing the process accurately. It's good to hear that there are multiple workable sites. I think it's going to be much less than a year to both find the developer and put the workable property together. Actually, it would be pretty safe to bet the short list of both developers and properties are already on the table. This is not a treasure hunt starting from ground zero.

As was discussed a couple of weeks back, when UTPlanner announced that the owners of the Shilo had applied for a permit to remodel their building I doubt that's an option anymore. If they felt they were a legit contender in the CCH race, I doubt they would have spent the money securing the permit and doing all the work necessary to get that permit, such as architectural work and engineering work.

I certainly don't think it will be 2020 before it's completed but earlier estimates always, to me, seemed way off. The gears work slowly in government and it only makes it more difficult when you have 3 levels of government involved and each wants to have the final say on nearly everything. Also, this is a big deal. This is a very high profile structure in our city and it's utilizing public funds. It needs to move forward carefully to ensure that the final product is truly the fantastic amenity that it certainly can be.

From talking with a few people involved, I can tell you that there are several sites with very willing property owners. I don't know which sites they are exactly but if one of those sites are chosen, the process could proceed fairly quickly.

Hey beg on, that's probably one of the more interesting questions always discussed. Can anyone think of a site that perhaps we might not have discussed at length yet?

I'd like to see several forum members post their top six list in descending order of best chance to be chosen.

Keep in mind that the architects costruction drawings will take about a year or more depending on the type of contract this will be. The traditional design-bid-build process is longer, but assures a competitive bid. Design-build or fast track will be a much quicker process that allows a pre-chosen contractor to begin construction while the building's design and construction documents are still in progress.

Agreed. I think if we get a list of the best spots it will make clear the choices and if we get a new tallest.

My list doesn't fully take into account the need for serious amounts of convention space, simply proximity to the Salt Palace and activating downtown further west off Main.

1) Royal Wood Plaza
2) SW corner of 200 S and 200 W
3) NE Corner of 200 S and W. Temple
4) Shilo
5) SE Corner of 100 S and 300 W
6) S Temple between 200 W and 300 W.


I think the mention of 3 or 4 workable sites by McAdams would include sites with enough space to accommodate the needed convention space.

So.. We are moving to San Antonio this week. Nervous and excited. I'm a Utah boy at heart, so I will still make my home on this thread to see the new and exciting things coming to SLC and Utah. Besides, the SA boards are sloooooooooooooooooooooow.

Driving by the Chase/Ruth's Chris building I noticed a big sign on the side that says Broadway Media. I looked up Broadway Media to see what it was and it looks like a while back Del Loy Hansen (Real Salt Lake owner, also owned ESPN 700) bought most of Simmons Media's stations. Stations include X96, 101.5 The Eagle, U92, and a few more. I believe that this means that they are moving their studios from the building by Trolley Square into this renovated downtown building. That makes sense because I now remember Todd Nuk'em posting a picture of the building when construction first started and said something to the effect of "I wonder what's going on here "
