I'll post those renders here directly. They look fine. Nothing special, but I think ABIA's main concern should be Capacity per Dollar right now. The city is playing catch-up.

I actually don't mind it. I like the light wood accents and space lol. Thanks for sharing Echo! It would be amazing if we had this by 2030

Looks too random regional Scandinavian airport -esque for me. Austin’s a big city and the airport should reflect that IMO. I want a hectic, overcrowded, modern airport with SIM card shops and bag wrapping stations everywhere. The rendering looks like a good place to have a nice fireside chat over hot cocoa.

Honestly, this is the same general layout philosophy of a lot of major airports around the world, especially a lot of the newer ones popping up throughout Asia. It's way more efficient than the older US-style setup with a long row of counters.

Looks a lot like La Guardia's new terminal (though not as sleek design-wise). I like the flow of the counters in there so I think this will be a plus.

Honestly, I think using this layout for check in counters feels more international, but that could just be my perception from seeing it more often overseas or at the JFK terminal for AA.

Architecturally wise, is anyone attached to these renders? I wonder if they are more of a basic concept from the airport to act as a visual placeholder for when a firm draws up an actual plan. I doubt we're getting what Hadid did for the Beijing terminal, but even with value engineering, I'd be surprised it's this bare bones.

That is a perfect description of what these are.

I posted the link above to the request for qualifications for a designer to prepare the final plans.

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. I mean, the design isn't hideous but I'd be surprised if the final result is this basic.

My money would be on Gensler getting the gig. They did a good job with the expansion in my opinion.

WOW! So, SOM has been selected as design architect of the new Arrivals and Departures Hall?!? This could be good news - from a design prospective. Page has become rather boring IMHO.

I have lost my own bet.

But hell yeah, SOM should deliver something worthwhile if it's anything like their plans for O'Hare.

Oh thank god! Page and Gensler are everywhere! We need some diversity in design teams.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but SOM has Austin office now FWIW.

WOW! That's huge. Almost doubling their number of seats. I guess they're going to fill the missing demand after the departure of Virgin.

Hopefully and Asian connection will be announced in the coming year or two.

I'm curious how Delta is strategizing long haul out of Austin, given their alleged plans to build a focus city here.

Three airline groups have a member flying to Europe out of AUS, so I'd be curious if Delta's expansion in the airport will see a SkyTeam asian carrier come before an additional EU route on a SkyTeam partner or DL flight.

I mean, I'd imagine that first, they'll build out more US routes on DL with what room they can get before the airport expansion's completed, but I'd be surprised if they tried to fight for space to add any more flights across the Atlantic in the near future.

I kinda think this was a plan for Virgin Atlantic but they pulled out before the focus city plan got started.
