The first time I saw Ryerson's ILC up close, I thought the glazing and panelling looked really cheap.. kind of like a giant bus stop or something. As much as I love the Peace Bridge, I had a similar feeling first time I took a close look there too.

I can't speak to Ryerson, but the Peace Bridge's finishing is very poor. After repairing all the welding defects there wasn't enough money left to polish it up. There was negative money, over 10 million dollars negative. I like that bridge but to this day I can't stand to get within 150 feet of it.
Quality is actually very easy to discern when you know anything at all about materials and their application.
