I don't think they own the building considering there are some offices on the upper floors. Perhaps John Day owns the building? (I know he developed it). Regardless, I hope there isn't a RC in the lease agreement.

"Anorexic" being code for "not morbidly obese". North Americans are fatty fatty fat fats. Vanity sizing & cuts have gotten the point I don't shop at mass market American chains because the vast majority of the adult clothing has spare-tire accommodation built into the shirts & pants, making it look ridiculous on my non-spherical body.

Uniqlo makes some great stuff & originally didn't kowtow to the American "ideal", but now they're marching down that path on the way to market share. Understandable, but a shame.

That's why my favourite pair of grey jeans are made from fabric made for Uniqlo (in Japanese mills), but sewn up in San Francisco by a different company & sold for about half the price.

Correct he did sell the building. Sobey's cannot have an RC on it as they do not own the building and cannot stop the owner from bringing in a grocer in the future. The space is currently leased to Sobey's and they do have the right to sub lease to anyone of their chosing. Its all up to Sobeys to see what happens. That is all I can say.

When is Sobeys' lease on the building up? That will most likely determine the timeline for getting a new grocer in there.

Shitty space for a grocer... Ever since the first time I went in there I didn't like it. Downtown needs a full size grocery store. That space would be perfect for a shoppers, but since that's supposedly going across the street... Just subdivide the space... Too bad book stores are done...be a good chapters location

Disagree. The Sobeys was poorly laid out, and they continued to put too much focus on concepts that clearly were not working out (like the cafe).

Downtown doesn't need a full-size store; the demographic here isn't the same as the family that stocks up for a week's worth of food for a family of 4-5. That demographic would be impossible to satisfy anyway since there is not sufficient parking to handle those kinds of trips.

Just lay the store out better, focus on better selection of basic (not premium) products and less on things that are already overly abundant downtown (cafe, hot lunch counter), and you're golden.

What happened to the Save-On at Jasper and 109 Street, also what about the Safeway Store at Oliver Square? Finally there are two Shoppers Stores in the Edmonton Center. How many grocery stores does downtown Edmonton really need?

Another small one around 104st...

We go to Save-On every 2 weeks or so, but it would be nice to have meat, bread, cheese, milk, produce a little closer.
