Don't worry.. The stench of downtown douchebagginess is their kryptonite. They won't go near you

I heard on the news last night that the northside has a big growth of young affluent shoppers, plus the Simons CEO said that completion of the Henday should bring more shoppers to Londonderry. But I see that the mall still has that north-ender gangsta/crack whore/UFC thug perception to shake off.

Hopefully it does well enough to justify one downtown too!

Downtown still has that barren dangerous wasteland perception to shake off. If that can be done there, it can on the north side too

The wife and I went to Londonderry to see my nephew play hockey last weekend. We decided to go to LD mall since we were in neighbourhood. Wow! Was never a fan and still not! My wife had never been there before. She was not impressed at all. Sure renos are going on and now they get a Simmons. It was just plain dirty. The crowd was shall we say...... A little rough around the edges.

I don't like malls on the best of days. But... If I were to pick a mall to shop at it would be Downtown. Southgate second.

^ which is fine for you but there are a ton of huge houses and disposable income in the north end of Edmonton and I would never drive downtown or Southgate to do some shopping (Kingsway is even too far).

^ Awesome! Need more independent cafes in the core, plus that removes a dental clinic from the street level.

Saw some rumors on twitter that Sobeys refuses to sublease their downtown space to another grocer.

^^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Coffee Bureau and that awesome map's in the NW corner of the 105 St Dental Building? That would be good as an alternate place for me to get coffee other what you get in the Standard Life Building, since most of my doctors and dental appointments tend to take place in the morning, sometimes early.

There better not be any restricted covenants in place on that building, last thing downtown needs is an empty storefront of that size for a decade...

Sobey's just leased the space, not own right? I don't see how it would be possible to have a RC unless it was built into the lease agreement...
