I have to make a trip to Toronto. There is something about the city that draws me there, and screams " the future is here ".

I really get a kick out of the way it appears to standing on tippy toes in skycandy's CN Tower view.

After all the body-shaming this one has received... looks great from above.

The tallest iteration had a much nicer profile than what was built at 160 Front. I doubt the artistic response to the height reduction came from the star international firm but, rather the local architect of record appeasing Cadillac Fairview.

Most of the projects on the Top 10 list are years away from completion. This list can only get taller.

I don't even remember seeing the rendering for the taller version. Perhaps it was changed fairly early in the process.

AS+GG’s 54 storey (265 metre) version first proposed back in 2014.

UT

From the same CN Tower view as the real thing posted above.

Interesting. The taller version would certainly have blocked a lot more of the financial district from the main viewing level. Thanks @Maldive

^Yeah, we dodged a bullet.

I like this building's architecture in isolation, I just think it has an unfortunate location from a personal "skyline fanboi" perspective.

Guess I need new glasses ‘cause this is only about 60% complete… but kinda looks super-tall already in the photo lol.

I love Bender and our new Bender Tower. Except for the Logo screens I wouldn't change a thing with it.

Like they put the taller tower in a vice and clamped down until the new height was obtained instead of a redesign. No bullet dodged in a flawless victory. Just not a fatality.

Bender's body is a cylinder and his number one feature is either his ping pong ball eyes or his antenna. I see little resemblance.

I still like to think of it as the Gumby tower, despite no longer having the same height as before. I just imagine it as Gumby after eating a few too many apples or something.

The lighting is quite something on the tower. I walked by this evening and it stand out quite well in many many places downtown.

We actually had a Gumby Tower proposal over on Yonge a few years back.

And I'm pretty sure that most people here think the holes on 160 resemble the eyes shape on bender, it's not a literal representation of Bender. Nobody is saying that and I'm not referring to your comment GeneralLeeTPHLS. Some people just need to use their imaginations a little more.

^415 Yonge. I actually like that a whole lot more than 160 Front W., which looks like a snail set on end.

I suppose my tone came off as a bit wrong in my last comment.
I agree, and find little nicknames and associations with buildings and parts of town are a perfectly normal way to identify with places.

I also agree that other buildings in the area should invest in more lighting systems, in part because this area of the city, right out from Union Station, holds some of our best architectural work from the last 30 years. Front street in general should be given a makeover from Spadina to Jarvis.

The modern part of that Yonge proposal isn't too bad but I just can't handle how it's stuck on top and straddling the little highrise. It's just so awkward.
