that is a beaut ... why didn't they just continue Rothesay into one continuous road with on and off ramps for that highway

at least we have the excuse of that our roads are F&%^ing old hahaha

one of our irritating intersections is this one
https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=st.+john's...on+No.+1,+Newfoundland+and+Labrador&z=19

because the lanes are separated by an island and the left and right turns are confusing when driving on it
If you are trying to go to the Sheraton and not coming from Duckworth Street you have to drive on the right side of the island and then cross traffic on Duckworth and loop around to the hotel .. but it's because this intersection was designed for left hand side driving. We switched in 1947 in preparation of the possibility of joining canada

all the same our new urban developments are not very planned still

Yeah, this one's pretty awful, since it's basically built to be a funnel for KV residents coming into town to work/shop on the East Side. There have been times where the Rothesay Avenue to Rothesay Road direction (which has to stop for the westbound offramp) gets so backed up that it's actually faster to get on Highway 1 eastbound, drive 3.5km to the next exit, turn around, drive back to the westbound offramp and turn right onto Rothesay Road than it is to wait.

Had the full interchange been built at Ashburn/end of McAllister back in the day we wouldn't have these problems.

If you think that's fun, imagine if they had built this early proposed version of the throughway and 'airport expressway'

A few images I took over the last week from Saint John and KV

I can't say I like the library sign very much, but it could be worse.

Well, a large part of the reason for the interchange's weird design is to work around the train tracks.

...what is this I don't even... how does... why... my brain hurts. I would have to see the rest of that "airport expressway's" routing to even begin to understand it.

I read in the TJ today that the city has approved plans to build the barge terminal in West Saint John as a shipping terminal for massive components of industrial plants.

Does anyone have any idea of what this terminal will look like? Will it contain shipping crains as seen on the lower west side of the harbour?

I remember seeing plans/renders for it on one of the agendas from Common Council a few weeks ago.

There are no cranes, no buildings, no facilities. It is literally a piece of land gutting out onto the water where trucks back their loads out onto a barge, and then the barge is taken by tugboat to wherever it needs to go (whether west or Courtenay Bay). It utilizes high and low tides to move the barges into positions.

Just to clarify, Council hasn't yet approved the barge terminal; at tonight's council meeting they are only expected to approve that the application be sent to the PAC for review and recommendation before making a final decision.

My mistake. What kind of employment do you think will be generated from this?
By the way it looks like the King's Square bandstand is getting a refurbishment

Yeah, I was just being an arse.

New Commercial Building On The Old Rothesay Road

I noticed that a new small commercial building is under construction on the old Rothesay Road, not far from the Irving station. Two years ago there was a sign for the building, but it has been removed for over a year now, so I was surprised to see the building finally in the early stages of construction. A similar style, but slightly larger sister building is located immediately next to the new one under construction.

The Marco Polo will be soon permanently in the uptown. The TJ reported that officials are looking for a place for it either by the boardwalk, or Water St.

It isn't bound for sea, and isn't built to scale, but it's better than nothing.
