I took in a game in Calgary. It was a meh kinda scene. I expect line-ups, especially between periods. I've also attended hockey at Maple Leaf Gardens and Air Canada Centre. Same same.

Lastly I have been to MTS Centre when they sold out for a playoff game. I recall the mezzanine being very spacious, the beer linups long but the hotdog lines not so bad.

We can nit-pick about our warts until the cows come home. But things aren't always rosier elsewhere and not always horrendous here. Some people are never happy and they seem to post here too often...

rrskylar always bitches about Winnipeg/Manitoba and raves about Alberta, except for the weather where he complains about weather in southern Alberta. I would take his opinion with a grain of salt.

People in Calgary are "the beautiful people", they don't have waste product. Therefore bathrooms are not necessary.

I'll be an advocate for the NHL in Hamilton for as long as I live however, since Winnipeg and Hamilton are both AHL towns I'll state my case and its differences.

We've had a decent AHL team for over 10 years now and the same for Winnipeg. Problem is that despite a winning team, steeltowners still fail to show up for the games (partially because we thirst for only an NHL team that'd attract us down to Copps and maybe a Calder Cup final). We think though we deserve a franchise but our AHL crowds are sparse to say the least. And we feel it's a damn good enough reason not to show up.

I find Winnipeg to be more of a true NHL city as it was one before and I've always enjoyed seeing the MTS Centre full during Moose games (although I've never been) the photos do prove so. It's like taking candy away from a group of kids and than eating it right in front of them. They'll fight back and do whatever they can to enjoy whats left of it hense, your crowds during Moose games.

It's something people here in Hamilton still haven't absorbed yet.

Looks nice. I expect Tavern United to remain competitive, but I wonder how Rinkside Restaurant will hold up. There seems to be enough demand during hockey games (does the same hold true for other event nights?)

I don't follow hockey a whole lot, and am not familiar with AHL, so I might sound dumb asking. But are WHL and AHL similar leagues? Just different regions? And why doesn't Manitoba have a WHL team, seeing as it is part of Western Canada.

Right, I meant Winnipeg. - Because you have AHL. But why AHL over WHL?

AHL is minor-league professional. WHL is a junior league...for kids hoping to become professional. There is no WHL team in Winnipeg, I would imagine, because travel costs are high (Winnipeg would be the most remote WHL team) and little local demand for a second non-NHL hockey club.

Heh heh

I'm grumpy because some people are so firmly entrenched in their negative ways and can't find anything positive to say to save their lives.

It annoys and frustrates me so...

Has anyone heard anything about this? Like I said this was just mentioned today. I heard it on 92citi...
I don't think this above is true that it was heard on the radio but I believe this is where he may have heard it from on the Vancouver Canucks forum..

Credit goes to poster "c-a-n-u-c-k-s".

"Ok to post a speculation here with no linked source?

I don't usually post stuff like this but my connection who also happens to sign my cheque's rubs elbows with big biz in Winnipeg is saying "it's a done deal. Will be announced after the Olympics"

Many will have already heard the names involved... the usual suspects:

MTS is major shareholder and will have the TV broadcast rights (upon further questioning of my boss this seems to come from an MTS senior executive)
Marc Chipman (True North)
Thomson Carswell Group

I asked him how realistic he thought/felt/anticipated this to be and he said "it's a done deal. It'll be announced after the Olympics"

Me, I'll believe it when I see it... but my source is not the type to make it up... though he may be being misled a bit, I don't know.

Anyone thinking the MTS centre isn't NHL ready - you're wrong, it's NHL approved.

peace".

Remember that only the lower bowl is available for Moose games. That was a sellout. The Moose are always ranked second in the AHL for regular season attendance.
