That is federally. From a state perspective, Labor has held power and they have been staunchly against coal mine development.....until recently when they did an about-face due to the poor performace from the Labor party and have now all of a sudden become "coal friendly". Should the population once again go against coal, the tide could easily turn once again. Time will tell.
In addition, the Northern Territory government has now lifted their moratorium for on-shore LNG fracking, despite the majority of NT residents against the practice, simply because their econmony has been destroyed by both the CLP and ALP territory governments. Had this not been the case, the moratorium would have never been lifted.
