One more video I took last month of Vancouver's Skytrain.

Canada Line Northbound (elevated portion only).

I always love the basket-weave of where it splits into two branches.

So I was in the Lower Mainland over the weekend and took the Sky Train from King George in Surrey to Waterfront Station in DT Van, then took the Seabus across to North Van to meet a friend and make my way up to Whistler (which is amazing! first time there and I can't wait to go back). Was pretty impressed with how easy it was to make my way from Surrey to North Van, and it only cost like $2.75. One observation though, the train cars on the Skytrain are quite small and cramped, and the train makes a hell of a lot of noise on the tracks, couldn't even hear my headphones. Is there a couple different layouts of the trains, and are they always that noisy? The Skytrain system is definitely superior to the C-train here, but the C-train cars are so much quieter and seem like they can hold way more people.

It is a safe assumption that a single C-Train car can fit more people than a single skytrain car (especially the MK1s) save for possibly a single Canada Line car which are full subway cars, but skytrain's frequency due to automation makes up for this with more trains in general.

Also, what car did you ride on your trip?

Were they rather small boxy cars? (That would be the original MK1 cars from when the Expo Line originally opened. They are the smallest, oldest, and loudest of the feet).

Then there are the first generation MK2 cars, considerably longer and smoother than the MK1s. (came into service when the Millennium Line opened)

Then second gen MK2 cars, which are first gen with more bells and whistles (such as interior destination displays and LED route maps)

Then there are the super nice MK3s, which just went into service a couple weeks ago. I posted a few pictures of one testing a page or two back.

The Sea Bus is always a great ride.

Looking at Google it was the MK1 car I'm sure, so that could be why. I'm pretty sure I had a MK2 last time I was in Van and it was pretty noisy too (could just have been the tunnel). And yeah, the seabus was cool, never rode that before, definitely beats taking a city bus across the Lions Gate.

^ This sort of thing is called a "gun buyback program" and many American cities have done it before.

I think this is a first for Canada though.

Well, that's about $100 worth. I wonder what buyback amount is typical for such a program and why they didn't just offer the cash if they're trying to get guns off the street... seems like there would be a lot of people more interested in the cash.

IIRC, the TPS have held a "Pixels for Pistols" program a few times over the past decade or so, trading guns for cameras.

^ Yeah there was actually a similar program in Halifax a few years ago with various electronics as the incentive. It was actually pretty successful, but the bus tickets seem like a less attractive reward. As one of my friends put it, "you can trade in a gun for the chance to be late for work 50 times"

I noticed today they shut down the underground pedestrian tunnels that connect all corners of Yonge and Eglinton. I have to assume they are getting ready to start work on the Yonge-Eglinton LRT station which will be the main hub of the Crosstown Line and hopefully serve as a catalyst in turning Yonge-Eglinton into a downtown destination in its own right. There are two towers over 190 meters UC at the intersection new and one over 200 meters planned.

I wish they would install a scramble crossing at Yonge and Eglinton.

Considering the glacial speed Toronto builds transit, isn't it about time they started the at-grade sections both east to Kennedy/UTScar and west to Miss/Pearson?
