Probably not.

MH has land by HSC off of William for a large substation that would allow them to provide additional power to the west end.

It was suppose to go into service a few years ago but has been deferred and service is currently being delivered from the "new" station on Notre Dame @ Adelaide.

When the HSC area load gets bigger or the downtown load gets bigger then the HSC station will be built

Have it hand it to the Wellington Cresc. crowd in their ability to keep infill housing at bay, declare your neighbourhood a heritage district for starters and then oppose, oppose and oppose like hell anything that smells of change!

Even lefty Orlikow tows the company line despite saying the opposite elsewhere in Winnipeg!

Bet that infill pusher Allard will stay mum as he’s figured out who to kowtow to and when and where limits can be pushed!

Yea what is really funny is that it’s not like these condos are low-income or on a side street. It’s on the intersection of Wellington/Kingsway which has apartment blocks not more then 500 metres away. The condos themselves are probably going to cost more then the houses next to them lol.

That always made me wonder how the hell the city managed to get any sort of high density housing on Wellington in the first place. The stretch from Grosvenor to Stradbrook is quite impressive in how many apartments and middle housing they were able to build with all the NIMBYism in the area.

It’s funny though when city clowncillors have so much to say against nimbys and those opposed to unrealistic infill and condo projects elsewhere in the city but all are suddenly mute when it comes to this specific area!

While the building will not be a looker, it’s seemingly a tremendous fit.

The building will be practically invisible. That stretch of Young Street, with the massive U of W athletics buildings looming right over it, is the ultimate filler building location. I get that you wouldn't want something like this on, say, Broadway. But on this site it works.

I think it's reasonable to have higher expectations. This city is in serious need of some beautification, and that is a lowest-common-denominator design.

With the money the project had, perhaps this is all they could afford if they were going to maximize the number of suites inside the structure? I understand the desire for aesthetic beauty, but in this case especially I think the function of the building overrides quibbling about colours and finishes. Indigenous student housing/low income housing is desperately needed, so in this case I think the function of the inside of the building is much more important than what people may see driving or walking past it for a few seconds on the outside.

Looking at Google maps its been a parking lot since at least 2007 as that is the earliest picture of the lot on file

announcement today of a $1.5 billion redevelopment of the area around Polo Park, including the old stadium site....residential and commercial. A great transition from the retail hellscape it is today.

While "exploratory" renderings almost always look better than the final, value-engineered product, seeing any type of development at that scale in that area would be wonderful. 4,000 units is several years' worth of multi-family supply in Winnipeg, so it would definitely eat away at multi-family development occurring anywhere else (downtown, railside at the Forks, and suburbs) in the short term.

But the upside is that this area is already well-serviced with many amenities with little need for infrastructure upgrades (given Winnipeg standards), so I'd take this over adding 4,000 units to Bridgwater or Amber Trails any day.

Plus adding residential density near Manitoba's biggest mall will only help bolster sales at the mall, which is a win-win for local and regional shoppers and Cadillac-Fairview.

I hope it happens!
