Thought you guys should know:

ATLANTA — Wood Partners has plans to break ground on a new multifamily project in Midtown Atlanta that will be the first high-rise in the area to solely use natural gas for heating, hot water and cooking. The property will be located on West Peachtree Street and will include approximately 20,000 square feet of retail space. Wood Partners is working with Atlanta Gas Light on the project. The development is within walking distance to the Midtown MARTA station, as well as Piedmont Park, Georgia Tech and Midtown Atlanta's central business district. The property will feature a resort-style pool deck, club rooms and an urban park/courtyard. Wood Partners expects to break ground on the project in the first half of 2014. - See more at: http://www.rebusinessonline.com/main.cfm?id=17&date=20130912®ion=Southeast#sthash.kFCtDjL4.dpuf

There is a rendering at link above (I'm on a flight so can't post pic).

Oh, I LOVE this! As someone that spent 7 years at Georgia Pacific Plaza, I'll miss the cool old building that used to house Mambo but what a huge improvement for the neighborhood.

And yet another surface lot bites the dust!

Reed to disclose Falcons stadium developments (AJC)

Reportedly, a deal has been reached between the City and Mount Vernon on a $14.5M purchase price, but the congregation still has to vote on it. Plus, the other church, Friendship Baptist, still hasn't scheduled a vote. The deadline for stadium site selection is still October 1. I hope both congregations vote this down

Reed: City negotiates offers with both churches needed for preferred site (AJC)

According to Mayor Reed, the Falcons are paying the $8.3M needed to buy Mount Vernon, which will have a vote by the congregation on this next Thursday. Friendship Baptist hasn't scheduled a vote yet, but odds are it will depend, at least in part, on how Mount Vernon votes. One or both of these congregations could still derail this deal, and I hope they do!

I like that building a lot, too. Very stylish and urban feeling.

Zanark,

The preferred site has ALWAYS been the south site. This according to Arthur Blank during in interview on the NFL opening night game between the Broncos and the Ravens.
So get ready to come on down south and party in the hood. We don't bite and we pay taxes, too.

The churches would be foolish to back out of a once-in-a-lifetime deal.

At the press conference two weeks ago, Blank himself said that the north site was preferred by the Falcons and GWCCA until the Mayor convinced them otherwise. I heard him say it myself 10 days ago.

Let's hope this holds up. The south site has tremendous symbolic appeal, being at the terminus of the railroads from which Atlanta grew, next to the Gulch which is the future transportation hub of the region, and right in the middle of MLK Blvd...our city's symbol of reconciliation and unity. Who else better than Kasim Reed and Arthur Blank could have made the deal happen?

This is getting built about a 1/4 mile north of I-20 on Fulton Industrial. Why I don't know but I guess it can't hurt.

Latest Howell Mill Road Develoment

Atlanta-based Healey Weatherholtz is starting work on what will become Howell Mill Shops. The plan is for a mixed use project that will combine "restaurants, shops and residences in a walkable streetscape." The project is situated along Howell Mill Road, on the front, and Emery Street on the back.
The project will mean the demolition of a number of separate structures along both Howell Mill and Emery, including, but not limited to, the short lived Carizma restaurant / lounge, former Tom's Folly restaurant, as well as the Fashion Care dry cleaners. The Post Office, currently utilizing only a portion of a former Big Star grocery store, will likely relocate when the project moves forward.
Healey Weatherholtz also owns The Shops Around Lenox, a center it purchased in 2009 and pumped millions into remodeling and repositioning. Today, the center is nearly 100% leased, and includes Crate & Barrel , DEKA and Bhojanic , among others.

Construction Update

A minor construction update from Saturday morning as I drove by. Cell phone pics so these aren't the best quality.

College Football Hall of Fame

And the civil rights museum:

The civil rights museum is one building that I am looking forward to being completed based on the renderings I've seen.

Plans filed for Midtown student housing project

Ambling University Development Group is moving forward with plans to develop a new Midtown student housing high-rise at the Georgia Institute of Technology Campus.A building permit application was submitted to the City of Atlanta Friday to construct a new 19-story tower for student housing. The “Spring Street Housing” project was originally going to be 17-stories, according to earlier reports. The new student housing project, at 930 Spring Street, will offer 268 units, 261 parking spaces, and 10,247-square-feet of retail, according to the application.

An estimated $48,000,000 will be spent constructing the new 509,649-square-foot high-rise in Midtown located next to Technology Square..

This is one of the most exciting projects to me in the amount of foot traffic it will generate. All of these kids will walk to campus, walk to midtown restaurants and bars, and the activity and retail spaces could really change the way that part of Spring Street develops in the future. Plus this looks like a huge improvement amenity wise from the current on campus housing. Great project, I hope it gets off without a hitch.

Anyone know what development is going on next to Two Urban Licks? Was walking on the beltline today and they've got a serious plot of land that's being excavated / reshaped, as well as a couple cranes.

I think you're referring to the apartment project that was called the Somerset, but now it's called 700 something North, or something like that.

Here's an article talking about it:

Separately, update on that 10th st cycletrack? Heavy usage by cyclists? Still cars parking in it?
