I hate it when schools are named after school board trustees. Most in Regina are 'elected' by only a few hundred voters who care to vote for school boards. They often have axes to grind or agendas they are pursuing.

Most smaller communities simply name their schools after the town name. Naming schools in Regina after neighbourhoods seems reasonable to me. Although Plainsview will some day be a misnomer with the new development. They may need to rename it Bland Residential View.

Usually the school trustees that get schools named after them were more than just trustees. You don't get a school named after you for just being on the board. My kids attend Hawrylak; Hawrylak was a school board member, yes, but he taught and was later principal 40 years in education before the school board.

If they hadn't gone neighbourhood names with the new schools, I expect there would have been a school named after Mike Badham.

So what? There are plenty of people who teach/become administrators for 40 years. That doesn't mean they should have a school named after them.

Keep it simple, name it after the neighbourhood or area.

Well that has to be changed before some gets triggered or feels unsafe. During Gordon Grant's tenure as health minister, he introduced user fees for health services as part of the so-called "Black Friday budget" and closed 11 rural hospitals.

Gordon Rd is also named for him. The names should all be changed to physical features of the area. I like: Bald Prairie school, Bald Prairie Dr. and Slough St.

Well, if we go with the theme naming like the Greens with their Green Brook Rd, Green Stone Rd, Green Rock Rd et all, we could have Lilypad Drive, Lilypad Avenue et all in the Swamp Park formerly known as Whitmore Park. I hate the confusing names in some of the new areas.

Anyone know what's going in the old conexus building. On Victoria and Albert. Apparently they are looking at expanding the parkade on angus to 4 story's from two?

As mentioned here previously, official news of the Tartan and Callie Curling Clubs will amalgamate for the 2018-2019 season is out this morning. The Tartan on Broadway will close and they will be together at the facility on Schmirler.

Tartan is on Broadway. Caledonian is on SS Way.

Is it from the owner of the building next door? Allegedly one of the board members of the Tartan is friends with the owner of the other building, and some people believe that they have been working on this for a few years (getting the land). I can't lend any weight to the idea, I'm only repeating what I've heard from someone else.

As long as the board member is disclosing his interest, there's nothing wrong with that. The board as a whole has to make the initial decision, and it needs to be ratified by the members at large.

Wonderland Arcade looks like it won't reopen and likely the building needs to be knocked down. It would sure be nice to see some redevelopment on that block.
