Housing starts in metro Denver, as measured by Metrostudy, are now at their highest level since 2007, and Covert expects the pace to quicken and that builders will complete 10,000 new homes this year.

He called 10,000 homes an important milestone, but it is only half the number metro builders achieved during the peak of the housing boom last decade. It also remains far short of what is needed to keep pace with the region’s population growth.
Even then, new homes are on the higher side of the price range.

We are sick and tired of everyone flooding into our beautiful state and destroying it. I'm a 4th generation native and it has never been this bad in Colorado. ... This is out of control and we must do something about it.
And take your trash with you.

Our beautiful state is being destroyed by these inconsiderate transplants. ... For instance Hanging Lake recently had to close down due to so much garbage on the trail. This is where we draw the line!

Gov. John Hickenlooper it is time for you to show us that you really care about Colorado and stop all of these transplants from invading our state.

As a transplant, whatever. I did nothing wrong to anyone, people move around. I understand that you feel some connection to the land, but so do I. I love this state and would be back in Europe had it not been for Colorado (I genuinely do not care about the rest of this country). We just need to adapt to the new realities and address them, rather than somehow attempt to stop migration of people from around the country - I don't think that can be legislated

So you all want more skyscrapers but without to population to support them? In that case you should move to one of China's ghost towns. Want to live in a replica Manhattan for only $100 a month ?

I am a transplant and not only do I take my trash with me, on summer Sunday mornings I go across the road to Riverfront Park and pick up the trash that has been left. I know that our neighbours do the same. I would like to think that the example might slightly change the litterers' behaviour.

That's okay. It keeps the prices of resale homes in check. More is more.

Did you come here with $400,000 in California "equity" to buy with, which serves to drive up prices here? If so, then you did do something wrong to someone.

As an immigrant, I find that petition both disturbing and highly offensive. Why dont we just ask Trump to extend his wall around the state of Colorado?

Speaking as a native -- a small but vocal portion of people here have been voicing this same complaint since the 70s (and probably before, but I can't speak to that). They whine and cry about how they miss some long-gone place that "you totally don't remember" (and that was in all reality was probably not very good), that they can't enjoy the outdoors like they used to and can't afford anything anymore because of all the new people. 40 years ago there were enough of them to stop Denver getting the Olympics, but they haven't been anything more than background noise through the multiple population booms since. Unless they actually put forward dumb legislation I wouldn't worry about them, as this "petition" is nothing more than an attempt to get Facebook views and/or make Westword wet themselves in excitement to write an article about how fed up everyone is with "outsiders".

I know you're just being trollish and not churlish, but we had a conversation about this the other day with a bunch of people - and all ended up coming to the realization that a lot of the anger is because so few local employers have increased salaries to match increased cost of living here. It's really hard to live somewhere that housing costs have increased so much when you're not making much more than you were during the recession.

It's amazing that in the face of one of the biggest booms in Denver history and some of the sharpest rises in housing prices in the country, the market has been so, so slow to to respond and build new single family homes. Even now, the response lags.

You know those "native" bumper stickers that look like the old license plate? These things. My favorite thing Matt ever did was print his own that says "grow" instead of "native."

And that we still can't get the damn construction defects law passed, despite what seems like everyone screaming for it.

Obvious question: When they put in the A Train, did they add more power to the network? Because if they didn't then there's a chance that the power needs are at or exceeding the network's generation capacity.

Wasn't the address for the apartment portion, which is currently being built, officially changed to 1776 Curtis? Then the Office portion, which hasn't yet started construction, will be 999 17th St.

I said this back in March on the blog:

Quote:
Before we get to the pictures, let’s clarify something about the name of this project. You may have seen it referred to as 1776 Curtis Street elsewhere, which is, in fact, the address of the 28-story apartment tower. However, both the city, and Shea Properties refer to it as 999 17th Street. Because both the office and residential component are finishing at the same time, and to remain consistent with official sources, we will refer to this project as 999 17th Street until its completion.
For consistency at this point, since DenverInfill has done five updates now, it's going to remain 999 17th Street and in the post we will refer to the apartment building as 1776 Curtis.
