18C and sunny in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 28C this afternoon.

Hurricane Erin has rapidly intensified, and is now a CAT 4 storm. Luckily, it seems increasingly evident that the storm will turn and thread the needle between the North American mainland and Bermuda, and stay well offshore. The Maritimes do not appear to be at risk. There may still be some concern for the Avalon however.

An absolutely glorious 13C. Shorts with a fleece sweater. I needed this to get the rot off me.

Yeah what a complete change in fortune. Currently cloudy and some sunny breaks and a blistering 13 degrees at 12:30. Won't get much higher than that today, winds straight out of the north.

Temperatures for most of the week will be below seasonal, but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be much rain in the forecast either. Most models currently have Hurricane Erin missing us and taking a track well southeast of the Avalon.

My youngest son is celebrating his 30th birthday today, and, is having a BBQ and pool party this afternoon and evening. Lots of his friends are coming over.

After two comfortable days, the heavy humidity is back. Today's high was 29.8 with a humidex of 40, low of 19.4. Yesterday was 27.9 and Thursday was 28.7, but humidex only in the mid 30s.

Hickory tussock caterpillar - they are supposed to be venemous.

I'm not sure what the caterpillar is, I see hickory tussock caterpillars sometimes and they are pure white with a few thick black hairs and black markings, very striking appearance compared to this one. I still wouldn't touch it.

The flower is a blue passionflower which a friend gave to us around the time we moved here, maybe seven years ago. She told us it was an eggplant! It's a tropical plant, but survives here. Each winter it dies back to the ground. This May was so crappy I thought it was dead, but it came around, although it hasn't even bloomed until now. Normally it has flowers from June to September.


May was really terrible compared to usual, I have a lemon tree in a pot that usually grows 20-30 lemons and this year it has zero. Same with my pawpaws, just a fraction of the fruit they had last year. It was too cool and not sunny. The bees weren't active and it was too cold for fruit to set even if they were pollinated

Those frost advisories are depressing. It's August for christ sakes.

30C with a humidex of 34 and sunny. Another 30+ day and another relatively dry one with a moderate dewpoint of 15C.

Temperature has been staying warm well into the evening so it's pretty good. It's 25C still at midnight.

Much cooler here today, cloudy and highs of only 23C.

We hit 34C yesterday, feeling like 38 with humidity. It was our 32nd day over 30.0C this year. Looking forward, things will be cooler with highs of 21-25C, with a few days in the 26-30C range.

Showers and thunderstorms this evening. They are actually predicting a 100% chance of precipitation, something I have not seen in about six weeks or so.

We may get 10-20 mm of precipitation, still much less than we need, but, most welcome.
