I was in Banff twice this last summer at the beginning and end of a vacation and we couldn't wait to get out. You can’t really knock the town itself though. Just because you visited in a record setting heatwave while the smokepocalypse was taking place doesn’t really mean the town itself is ugly. It has hilarious tourist shops with maple syrop (there are no maple trees in Alberta) and plush mooses, but that’s standard fare for any International Canadian tourist spot.
Edit: as for overpriced food there’s a place called Clive Burger we ate at and ended up paying 60$ for some burgers and fries. I’ve never been so pissed off at a bill before. They tacked on ridiculous extras for every topping.
