Agreed. I hope that somehow land owners become incentiveized to renovate / give up their land for larger development (everyone has their price, right?). I also agree that home park is surrounded by "good" areas, and that something will have to give eventually, but it may be 20 years.

I live on State Street and I think this street has the most potential to be one of the main pedestrian (i.e. safe) connectors between atlantic station and GT. The rest of homepark would require some massive reconstruction.

I wish GT could step in and buy home park or even have the state / city government do something at this point, but I know that's not likely either. Will just have to wait... In the mean time, I could always rent

Right.

Because we all know that once the state or city step in, everything becomes peaches and cream.

Hotel planned near Georgia Aquarium

According to a report by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, A new hotel near the Georgia Aquarium has been proposed.Plans were filed Aug. 7 in Atlanta for a seven-story hotel on roughly an acre of land that’s catty-corner to the aquarium at Ivan Allen Boulevard and Luckie Street. Parking and valet company Ameripark owns the property, according to Fulton County records. Ameripark CEO Chip Patterson declined to comment on the project.

The nearly 110,000-square-foot lodging would have about 150 rooms, meeting space and a restaurant. It likely would be branded a Hyatt House, according to a project summary submitted to the city.

haha, agree in general, but home park between 10th, northside, 14th and turner is at rock bottom. Anything would be better than current state. But i'll be hopeful, there are a few nice homes dotted in the neighborhood and state street school condos are nice. There's always cops driving around, but crime still persists. It's strange. The new GT Engineered Biosystems Building on 10th and State will also help. But my money is still on ~20 years for any major changes.

Catty-corner, so on the Northwest side of the intersection? That'd be great.

Sadly, I think Aquarius is very dead, but I'd love for it to resurrect itself like a phoenix over downtown Atlanta.

Probably very true, however what could be a real landmark project for the COP area is the rebirth of the Allen Plaza project currently being planned by a partnership of Regent Partners and Post Properties.

A combination of Atlantic Station's retail and office mix( a Target ?); Glenwood Park's housing mix and attention to detail along with some transit orientation- The Atlanta Streetcar- would add some additional value to the already expanding COP community.

I wouldn't be surprised if we soon see the same burst of announcements for downtown that we've seen in Buckhead and Midtown. Post and Regent have been major players in Buckhead and they don't mess around.

I've been thinking the same thing, arjay57. I used to work at Allen Plaza up until June of last year, and was friendly with some of the management team that transitioned from Barry to Avison Young when they took over. They intimated several times that big things were possibly in the works. I have also mentioned that I used to occasionally encounter groups of people with rolled up blueprints wandering around the immediate area to the south of 30 Allen Plaza that were obviously not on their way anywhere, but actually wandering. That area is beyond ripe for redevelopment.

Speaking of that area and talk of a new hotel on Ivan Allen, has anyone seen the progress of the Days Inn conversion to the new aloft? I haven't been Downtown lately. I still miss it...

LOL! You can't be serious. What an absolutely ridiculous thing to say.

I know more than a few laid back, non-judgmental Buckhead girls from $$$. They are much more likely to head to Va-Hi, Decatur, Brookhaven or Midtown. I'm sure a few go to Edgewood, but "all" is a complete joke. Sad to say, but there's a safety perception associated with Edgewood with many of these girls. I can totally understand that from their viewpoint. Sad, but true.

Gold Dome area to get overhaul (Atlanta Business Chronicle)

I hope that skyway is gone forever, and they find a way to expand the interchange from I-75/85 South to I-20 underneath where the current parking deck is.

I'd love to see 50 Allen Plaza break ground as well, especially if the Falcons stadium gets built on the north site. That would be an amazing, albeit long, walk from Civic Center MARTA Station. The Streetcar and product mix in that area would be a big boost, and maybe Post Centennial Park would be waiting in the wings too. I hope they put a 24-hour grocery across from the Atlanta Union, as was rumored years ago, since they would have TONS of walk up shoppers from Tech, Centennial Hill, and people living in and visiting the Park area.

It's well under way. Last week they ripped off the porte cochere and scaffolding now surrounds the whole building. Looks like a massive overhaul as they promised. They also cut down a few trees on Williams Street along the sidewalk. Too bad they are not bringing any of it closer to any of the streets. I think it will still be surrounded by the parking lot.
