Close. Regina Intermodal Facility is CP's facility at the GTH. It was set up when they moved the railyards out of the city.

This almost seems like something from the Onion since this "news" piece was full of absolutely no information other than stating the obvious that the Brandt Center is an aging facility.

What a horrible nothing story. Mobile website video to boot.

The city has already had consultations about that land and a new arena isn't even on the radar for that area.

Are you calling him trollish bc he doesn't like the website or bc he doesn't agree about the arena? There were public consultations regarding how to develop the railyards. None of the plans included a replacement for the Brandt Centre.

I think the site looks great as is with the torn and haggard RRI banners flopping around in the wind.

Does anyone know of any official status on the Railyards from the City? I cant recall the last time anyone gave an update. The last update on the RRI website still says:

"An emerging preferred redevelopment concept will undergo public engagement in May 2017, potential revisions in summer 2017, then go to Council for approval sometime late 2017."

We know public consultations were held May/June 2017, but we also know it has never gone to Council.

We also know their website used to say this concept phase would be all wrapped up by October 2016. And here we are going into April 2018.

And for the record, there was an invite only, but not private event, held Nov 2016 featuring a guest speaker from London Ontario who spoke about the success of their new downtown event centre, and how their public/private model is working well. You can connect the dots as to how the Railyard lands could be used to do the same thing in Regina. Media was there, as were city officials, but not much was reported on. I even happened to be at an Executive Committee meeting at City Hall last spring, and this event was brought up during the agenda item before mine.

So yes, there was a bit of noise about putting an arena in the Railyards a few years ago, but it has all gone very quiet since. The City has continued to remind folks that through their official RRI feedback process, nobody identified an arena as a priority for the Railyards.

So for 2018, large construction builds include:

1. CNIB/Brandt new building (Wascana Centre)
2. Conexus new head office (Wascana Centre)

What else?

Aurora out by Tower Road, continuing work on the bypass, maybe filling a hole?

Not a new build, but there is the new façading happening on the Lorne Street Sasktel building.

Depending on Federal incentives, you might have Namarind getting their Lorne and 11th project on a schedule...

Potential planning of Sears space/Cornwall Exterior redesigning.

City police taking over/renovating the old STC building.

Can't picture any potentials over and above those 4.

Long term possibilities/past proposals:

- Development of temp parking lot beside Delta.
- Office building on Rose between 11th and 12th
- Capital Pointe
- Central Library
- Pedestrian Bridge connection to Railyard area
- Namarind could probably go here, too...
- And the Sears space as well...
- Alt Hotel
- Years ago, SGI was looking into a new building...

While I don't think a new arena will happen anytime soon, when the Traveller's building burnt down there was some talk about how that 1800 block Broad could probably fit a medium sized arena.

Other than the refurbished building on the corner of 11th and Broad the rest of the block is either dirt parking, empty lots and run down. The Vietnamese place and the LB have appear to have been maintained, but they aren't irreplaceable.

The SLGA store will close. The most plausible scenario is some sort of connection to the casino or a new casino, along the lines of the Seminole/Cardinal proposal for the football stadium.

Agreed. That and the Sears redevelopment are #1 and #2 on my list.
