Mmmh, thanks, but at 50fl., I would have expected to see the Tour des Canadiens a little higher. Thats especially surprising compared to Tour IBM at 47fl. just across the street.

It's another story in Wintario.
Yeah, that is definitely true. My impression of the OPP's enforcement of basic traffic etiquette is that it's either lax or contradictory. I think there was a blitz several years ago where people who were driving the speed limit in the left lane were actually pulled over for obstructing traffic!

Meanwhile, how is going that driving habit in BC, my friend ?

Anyway, in Quebec, if you stay too much on the left lane, it doesn't take 10 sec. to get someone pushing you in the ass...

BC drivers are bad in other ways. There's less of a problem of having to pass people to the right because they hog the lane, but there are other problems:

- people who block intersections because they got caught in the middle of a red light (and didn't realize that there was a free lane to their left the whole time);
- people who wait 4 seconds to go on an advanced green. Seriously, 10 cars can proceed through a left turn signal in Toronto in the time it takes 5 to go through in Vancouver.

Anyway, back to skylines...

Thats because TDC is condos, IBM is office. Higher ceilings...

Plus IBM is positioned on higher ground than TDC. And I think I see a part of the core of TDC sticking out, so im not sure if the roof element is completed yet.

Yep, and there is a significant height difference (33m) between the two. 1250 R-L is 200m while TDC is 167m.

I mean, this anecdote from this article rings so true for me:
http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/the-ugly-canadian-mindset
I have always thought that Canadians are some of the worst, along with British and American travellers, whereas continental Europeans tend to be markedly better; more adventurous, more likely to speak other languages, less likely to impose on their hosts (usually Americans don't even know they are doing it, because they are used to everything being tailored to them). Then again it could just be that the places I've gone to have been more adventurous European destinations and less adventurous for North Americans. But even some well-travelled Americans I know are pretty annoying.

Maybe it's my own (bad) temperament but I find Europeans in general much easier to get along with than Americans. The thought of having to deal with Californians every day is what kept me from moving to California. It's too spoiled and image-conscious. Of course, Vancouver is 2/3 of the way there and getting worse.

I have the opposite problem with Quebec, which is that I get along with the people but not the climate. I think Montreal and Quebec City should swap places with Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Wow. You and I have had totally different experiences. For me, the French are the new Americans: fat, pushy and unilingual. They're everywhere, too.

American tourists are now probably the best ones. Most Americans don't travel outside of the US, so those who do are usually the most educated, culturally-sensitive tourists.

The shot of Montreal with the Turcot is great, BTW.

It's sort of funny to see a Sunbelt freeway interchange in the middle of a red brick east coast city.

Yes, in Quebec that rule is citizen-enforced.

This is not to bash QC but you guys would probably find it lacking in cosmopolitanism. Or least in the type of cosmopolitanism that you are used to.

Although this is definitely changing in QC.

I find Montreal`s skyline to be hot and cold.

In some pics, not appealing at all IMO, but in other pics, such as the ones posted above, it looks fantastic.

Not sure why this is for me.

Wow again. Really? Fat French tourists? Sounds like an alternate reality. But the Chinese are the new ugly Americans anyway. Actually, their pestilent unpleasantness is probably worse than Americans ever were.

My experience totally jibes with that of someone123. One thing that's really off-putting about Americans is that yes, the ones going abroad tend to self-select into the most educated group, and yet somehow they still manage to be boorish and entitled. And of course it needs be said that Canadians are quite similar, though maybe just slightly less boorish and entitled, enough for them to notice and remark upon with self-satisfaction.

Speaking purely in stereotypes, of course. It's always gratifying to meet cool individual people from any culture or nation.

Hmm. Even Americans coming to Canada seem fairly humble. Maybe it's a west coast thing. I run into a lot of people from San Francisco and they've always been nice.
