Worse than DT Calgary

This is quite the change from the previously approved 10-storey condo project!

Good to see the hotel space preserved. With Taylor Swift and the World Cup looming, it's become very clear we should preserve all the hotel space we have and add to it as much as possible.

Yes, much better to have a hotel than a boutique condo with pricey units for the global rich. it will generate more economic activity. I hope the commercial space gets approved and is a restaurant.

That's a lot of grocery stores for a few blocks. I wonder if the Whole Foods site is going to go soon.

Also surprised to see another grocery store in the West End. But not mad about it!

Great to see Vancouver neighbourhoods more than bucking the trend of "food deserts" in N America.

Kits also has increasing supply of grocery stores. Whole Foods and Safeway at 4th and Vine (with Safeway being replaced with a larger version in the new rental development). Now the new store opening at 4th and Macdonald, supplemented by butcher, fish mongers and green grocers. Good to see this amount of food options in our walkable neighbourhoods!

The tower is so inefficiently positioned on that Whole Foods site.
We can fit in a ton of residential units. Quite surprised we haven't seen any proposals yet.

As for 1555 Robson, I'm glad that they are continuing the "glossy brick" exterior motif on the podium, which I think is becoming a design language for buildings on Robson.
But the towers are ugly af

It seems like the Whole Foods complex might be owned with a few other small apartments in the West End by some family investment vehicle (Balay Management, Khu family) bought in the early 2000s

they certainly are ugly af...perhaps theres a view cone limiting heights etc but I'd prefer a scheme where the western one is shorter, to give more air/gap space to the Kuma tower///then transfer the density to the eastern, taller tower

unless you're in a plane I don't think the western tower would block views from pedestrians or people on the street from seeing Kengo Kuma.

The eastern tower actually blocks the view of the building more, as the building is most visible along Robson at the top of the hill heading towards Stanley Park.

Park Place Plaza Update - DP

Photos are from 2022.

The plaza at one of Vancouver’s most prominent office buildings may soon don far more than its usual holiday attire. A major river inspired update to the base of Park Place promises improved sustainability, better spaces for pedestrians & room for food trucks.

They can't keep any cafes in their retail spaces (B1 is now a lounge according to the website), so they'll try food trucks on the plaza. Hmmm.
