I fully agree with your points... but at the risk of dancing around political incorrectness... I would not expect the residents of Taiga to be a hotbed of NIMBYism...

For that matter, the road for the transitway will be super-narrow at that point, unless they pour some sort of retaining wall inside the trench to support a small shoulder up top next to Taiga.

Good Day, all.... 3 significant new postings on Stage2 website for WLRT and Belfast MSF :

http://www.stage2lrt.ca/wp-content/u...n_20170322.pdf
http://www.stage2lrt.ca/wp-content/u...0-2017-ENG.pdf
http://www.stage2lrt.ca/wp-content/u...-Expansion.pdf

some highlights :
a full to overflowing build-out of Belfast MSF to accommodate Stage1 34 vehicles plus Stage2 38 vehicles within the present footprint (maybe anticipating problems putting a LMSF plan together ?) along with a small storage capability at Baseline-Algonquin.
an RFP for WLRT2 out by 09 June 2017.

Good stuff... thanks for Posting!

So the "new and improved" Lincoln Fields station is now moved to the middle of a field, from it's proposed location underneath Carling Ave.

Instead of an easy transfer from a Carling Ave Bus directly down a set of stairs to the desired platform.. one must now sit on a bus doing a loop-de-loop down a hill... the possibly go up and down a set of stairs to get to an LRT.

Who comes up with this stuff anyway??

People who don't actually use transit. Or their own feet, for that matter.

Actually, isn't the new-new-new Lincoln Fields station, if not ideally under Carling itself, still closer to it, reducing pedestrian walk times/distances, as compared to the existing main platform of the Transitway?

My main concern, if the station can't be nudged even a little closer to Carling itself, is whether or not east-west buses serving the length of Carling would have to enter and exit that stupid bus bay instead of continuing in a linear fashion on Carling itself. Transit planners in this town are far to happy to subject bus passengers to too-tight, too-aggressive swerving.

I think OC wants E-W buses to enter the station, so as to facilitate fare transaction free transfers within the fare paid zone.

Thereby subjecting passengers on Carling-long buses to undue delays and physical discomfort.

Why aren't passengers, not buses, at the centre of transit planning?

Yeah, I don't see bus stop on Carling. The buses are totally doing the loop. I guess they only view buses as shuttles for LRT.

.
Exactly my point... Someone going east or west on Carling should be able to head down a SINGLE flight of stairs to get to a train. All that swerving and turning is not pleasant and not necessary... and anyone heading to points west or south must go now UP and DOWN a flight of stairs to get to their train.

If that is true, then there MUST be a better solution. How will transfers work at Cleary and New Orchard??

Presto/Transitpass users are covered, cash payers have their POP... that infrastructure is an enormous amount of expense, discomfort and inconvenience to prevent a few people from getting on a bus for free in the middle of nowhere on Carling Ave.

What about the passengers not wanting to transfer to the Confederation Line? What about the concept of running bus routes on straight lines? Having Carling buses entering and exiting a station is a loss of unnecessary minutes. The assumption here is that everybody will be using the Confederation Line. This is a big mistake.

The next thing we will hear is that Carling east and west of Lincoln Fields will be different routes requiring a transfer.

Yes, yes and yes. It boggles my mind that this is a "viable" concept for Lincoln Fields. This stop is a textbook case for an efficient transfer (straight line bus to straight line LRT)... yet this ($20m(??)) "transfer station" does nothing but introduce complexity and inconvenience for NO REASON WHATSOEVER.

At the risk of agreeing with Uhuniau... who the hell comes up with this stuff???

Anybody want to buy a used berm? Like new. Used only once or twice to deflect construction noise, but never actually used to contain train noise. Make an offer!

Curious how much it cost... seems like a decent sized berm

Ugh. The city is finally starting to remove those annoying service loops (like the one at Westgate, for example) just to create a new one at Lincoln Fields.

Good Day.....

actually, IIRC, the berm consists mostly of rock and materials extracted from the DOTT tunnels....as a cost-savings move .vs. disposal. That and the prospect of better sound deflection and better out-the-back-yard green view .vs. a butt-ugly 'sound-wall' made the whole concept environmental, pleasing, and efficient. Now...... a butt-ugly sound-wall to provide enough footprint space, and new costs to dispose of the material -somewhere-. They claim they will re-plant all the little trees they will have to (re)move.

Sigh.

Only two routes currently travel past Lincoln Fields Station (the 16 and 85). I strongly suspect that after Stage 2, the 16 will be re-routed along Richmond as New Orchard will be a better LRT transfer point (the detour to Carling is only really necessary to create a transfer point to the Transitway). It could then travel up Woodroffe up to Saville Row (it could loop through the front of Carlingwood, but I think giving it access from the back is better overall).

As for the 85, they will be installing a full crosswalk (with a traffic light) on Carling at the pedestrian entrance, so it would be possible to have the 85 travel straight on Carling and not enter the station even though the station isn't under Carling. Not quite as convenient, but still doable.

This will eventually happen once they build the Carling LRT line as it will terminate at Lincoln Fields. I am curious if they have put any design consideration into the station for this or if the whole thing will have to be redesigned.

And yet, it is the guiding assumption about EVERYTHING being done wrt to the bust element of transit in Ottawa, from the bus-LRT interfaces to the awful rejigging of bus routes, esp. the trunk lines inside the brown belt and within the old city of Ottawa.
