This building is now above grade and they appear to be pouring the support columns for the 2nd floor.

This one is turning out quite well. Great scale for the area.

I'm worried that it will do that thing we always do and make the ground floor retail out of touch for any local business and it will just be another Shoppers, bank and weed store. If someone has info on what it will be I would love to hear it.

Previously it was that oddball clothing consignment shop and the Thai village or whatever it was called. Decent food, ate there once or twice. I only wasn't loyal as I have family connections to other Thai spots.

For sure, hoping for local retailers. Based on the plans though, it does look as they might have one huge space (likely a Shoppers) and one smaller space (maybe a chain coffee shop), but I hope I'm wrong.

My understanding is that the Boomerang Kids store will be moving back into this building along with a Barley Mow pub (there was one there before).

I believe the Thai restaurant is not reopening. I think the neighbourhood newspaper said they were retiring.

Now that you mention it all of that does sound familiar.

Forgot about that one. We can never have too many Shoppers though, right?

The exposure on my phone was being fussy today. I don't generally like boulder face stone but I guess it adds some character to the vertical wall in this case. I wish the lower section had the same roof overhang as the upper section. It's a little bit plain, but otherwise I like the windows and brick color.

These absurdly thick balcony slabs.

It looks like Boomerang Kids will not become a tenant. Boomerang Kids Bank Street location has gone into bankruptcy, according to a message from the community association. Their temporary location (across the street from 1050 Bank) will shut down on October 2.

I have it on good authority (I know someone who is moving into the building next month) that Starbucks and a vegan salad place are the potential tenants of the retail units. So maybe no pot shop... for now.

A Starbucks would make sense, the one at Bank/Hopewell closed a few years ago (Happy Goat took its spot) leaving OOS with no Starbucks apart from CU. While I love my local coffee shops, I wouldn't mind seeing Starbucks start popping up all over again, after Covid decimated a lot of their locations.
