That is very much what London planned to do back in the 70s and early 80s to link Adelaide segments, however the entire Westminster ponds area has been designated an ESA and no chance on it being built in today's age. As well the topography wouldn't be ideal, as djeffery mentioned south of Commissioners it would have a steep climb, as well the backyards behind the houses have a steep hill going down towards the ponds for even a 2 lane road let alone a 4 lane.

But I would make it a natural street, like Springbank with all the trees, or Colonel Talbot at the hill. Take down as few trees as possible, and have the road surrounded by forest.

Here is the EA addendum for the improvements of Bradley Avenue from White Oak Road to Jalna Boulevard (west leg).

The addendum recommends widening to 4 lanes, new sidewalks and bike paths, so that the cross-section will match the existing Bradley cross-section to the east, and the future extension to the west.

Construction for this portion of Bradley and the extension from White Oak to Wharncliffe are both still expected to take place next year, 2023!

And hopefully the small piece from Wonderland to Bostwick not too long after that. Or at least before the rest of Southdale west of Bostwick is started.

Stop making good smart planning decisions with long term vision. You know our professional city planners and engineers will do the exact opposite.

Considering Dingman has been closed well over a year, and they are planning to widen it after it re-opens, I don't have much faith that Bradley will be done first either.

Hopefully they can also plan the East leg of Bradley from Wellington to the Veterans. It should all be 4 lanes. 2 lanes East of Wellington has gotten real bad lately.

The only good thing about the 2 lane stretch is that there are very few things fronting onto it. No businesses or driveways which makes the 2 lane stretch flow as best as it can. Only the traffic lights stall the flow normally, and there are some pretty long red light waits like the one at Adelaide that could be adjusted.

But ya the time has come to widen it to 4 lanes from Pond Mills to Wellington. The at-grade rail crossing near Pond Mills could be separated as there is room here vs some other locations like on Commissioners near Adelaide, but there are not too many trains that use the rails these days.

Widening Bradley east of Pond Mills isn't as urgent, and that would require twinning or replacing the Highbury ave overpass. As the Jackson area experiences growing pains however, this widening will need to happen.

-----

Regarding the western extension, any glimmer of hope extending Andover Drive south to Bradley via Morgan Avenue is officially dead. The old folks home south of Southdale has a new tower being built directly south of the Southdale and Andover intersection. This was a huge miss in terms of connectivity in my opinion.
-The residents living on or near Andover Drive were able to lobby against this extension as it would generate more traffic on the road, but tough luck you live in a growing city. They got the win, and we're going to pay for it with awkward connectivity in this area.
-There's still a possibility Notre Dame could get extended south to Wharncliffe/Bradley area but it would have to meander around a Greek Orthodox church. I think that's dead too.

Once complete, the intersection of Wonderland and Bradley will become prime real estate, especially once the further extension to Bostwick/Pack opens. With the casino now cancelled, there are now 2 corners of this intersection with large plots of land awaiting development.

Gone up 70% since 2005? Why is that a shock? Maybe the city should look at updating the costs on a more frequent basis for projects that are planned out that far.

This project has been stalled for more than a decade. The city should've built the extension prior to 2013 before they widened Southdale between Wharncliffe & Wonderland. Recall it being a major pain getting around when it was going on. They likely didnt think it would get delayed this far back.

Seems like the same old story with the Bradley extension. While no specifics are released, looks like there's an active court case in relation to the extension. Civic Works Committee receiving legal advice in private.

I bet it's for that property that is on Wharncliffe Road between the new Bradley Extension and the future one.

I'd be curious what The Hive would be able to claim over that anyway? All that needs to happen is their driveway is realigned a little bit to meet up with Bradley to the east of Wharncliffe a little ways and they lose a few trees. It's not like Bradley is going right through their buildings. They can't think they are going to stop this, look at 100 Stanley and that was actually a house. Plus they already have new houses over a year old backing along the western edge of the entire length of their property, they are no longer a secluded enclave. I wonder if it really is them that is suing or if it's the owner of the property that Bradley will actually occupy. I'm assuming The Hive isn't the landowner to the east, but I have no idea, and I only assume that based on the way they have their yard lined with trees.

An update I received last week regarding the extension. Glad to hear it's still on track for this year.

"The detailed design for the Bradley Avenue Extension is still on-going. Construction is planned for 2023, pending approvals from regulatory agencies and City Council. A Public Update Meeting will be scheduled in advance of project tendering."

City staff is asking Council to approve the increase to the engineering consultant contract to finish the detailed design of the extension, specifically with regards to the White Oaks Drain culvert located east of White Oak Road, which is required for drainage improvements.

The extension (between White Oak and Wharncliffe) is now set for construction in mid 2023 and is expected to finish in 2024. The widening of Bradley between White Oak and Jalna (which includes the culvert works) is expected to start in 2024.

Has there been any talk of extending Bradley westward to meet Pack Road, and extending Pack Road west to meet Highway 2/Longwoods Road? I remember both were in the long-term plans for Bradley Ave.

An EA was done a few years ago for the widening of Bostwick Road, and it also recommended a 4 lane extension of Bradley from Wonderland to Bostwick (to connect to Pack), so it is planned. Not sure when it's scheduled, but the EA page says that Bostwick is scheduled for construction in 2026, so I would think they would do the Bradley extension around the same time, or maybe a year or 2 after

https://london.ca/projects/bostwick-road-environmental-assessment

As far as extending Bradley/Pack to Longwoods, this is actually the first time I'm hearing about it ever being in a plan at some point lol, so not sure. If it is still in the plans, then I imagine it is still long-term as I can't find any reference to it on the city website.

I've never heard of that either, but that doesn't mean it was never talked about. For example, this real estate listing shows a road allowance along the south side of their property which would line up with where a potential Bradley (I'm going to say they rename Pack to Bradley once it's all connected, but maybe they won't, like the Ridout to Ernest connections lol). Not sure where the road allowance goes through the property between Westdel and Homewood.

Not sure there is a business case anytime in the next 30 years to do this, but 30 years ago, no one really thought the west end of Byron would look like it does now either.

First I am hearing of this too. It's a neat idea, considering just how much of a roller coaster Southdale is to Westdel Bourne.

A Pack road extension to Westdel would certainly be a nice alternative. It would be a engineering challenge due to the terrain and likely expensive to make however. Getting it all the way to Longwoods is a bonus too, but that gets tricky as it would cross the city limit. You'd need the country to agree to this.

If done, it would make Bradley(/Pack) another continuous road that goes all the way through the city limits. Not many currently do that.

It actually doesn't cross the city limits there. I was curious of that myself and I happened to have the realtor.ca page open, and it shows the city limits on it. This is how I noticed that listing I posted above, just blind luck. Anyway, the city limit runs just east of Woodhull, down to highway 2, runs along highway 2 to the property line between the first and second farms on the south side, west of Westdel Bourne and cuts south from there. So connecting to highway 2 from the north would still be within the city.
