I had sent an email off to Regina Downtown and got some responses.

There is talk of removing the rail yards, not the lines, out of the area between Dewdney and Sask Drive. I think this would be ideal, as it would open downtown to the Warehouse District. I think that is key.

STC is still ago, and should begin progress fairly soon. I was at work today and I saw some machines on that plot, as well as a big pile of sand....

Arts Action is still looking at their plans for the Legion by the Cornwall and the Leader building on Hamilton.

The Wingate Hotel will go for approval before city council on Monday.

Resdential development continues in the old Suma building and at Victoria Place.

When I asked if there was any more that had not been mentioned. I was told that there are some more businessess opening up over the next month (I can't think of any off the top of my head) and as well, some other major developments that can't be released yet, as they are confidential.

Another interesting thing was improving the look of the streets. Which apparently includes mural projects, street banners, improved lighting and new greenery for the boulevards.

I was looking at a paper dedicated to downtown today and apparently developers are interrested in the property east of Broad. The development of the STC Head office and depot has spurred interest in rejuvinating that part of the city, as this will act as the anchor to that part of downtown.

Came across this recently. Regina, circa 1978, alot of action going on.

I'm sure the locals will know what is about to be built there.

Welp, I am the only one from Regina...so stickying it to watch one guy talk might be weird.

Anywho, I'm sorry that you had to spend time at the bus depot. That place is kind of a dump. But luckily they started on the new one today, which will look great anchoring that side of the downtown.

When were you in Regina last? The downtown looked like garbage 5 years ago. It's coming along great now though. People are starting to return to the city centre.

SW & SE Development

The city has released these concept plans noting new roadways and neighbourhoods. The neighbourhoods circled in red are for immediate development (up to pop. of 235,000) and the yellow neighbourhoods are for development (up to pop. of 300,000).

Regina is a well planned out city. Its traffic planning is designed with expansion in mind, it looks like the Lewvan will need some upgrading though, to handle the population growth.

I was in Regina last summer for a few days and I think Regina is making excellent progress. The city centre is coming along very well.

Is anyone concerned with the planned road around the airport confining future expansion and perhaps a third runway?

Regina Exhibition Park has become Ipsco Park. They are planning new devlopments to a lot of the facilities. They started last year by building a new indoor soccer building. Next on the list is upgrading the seating at the Brandt Center, home of the Regina Pats to 8000.

The above was supposed to built in Regina in 2000. Seating for 50,000, with a price tag of $200,000,000. Never was built unfortunatly.

The old Galleria building has been formed into the new Federal Government building seen here:

Looks bad in that picture. But it was sitting vacant for quite a while so its good to see it being used. It will house about 800 employees, so there are still a lot of deparments not in that building. It is expected 2000 people will visit this building daily in the ehart of downtown.

This rendering looks kind of ugly, but it actually looks decent in person. This is the old Bay building. It is now home to Harvard Developments. It houses three Regina radio stations as well as Saskatchewan Property Management and a new coffee shop.

A new Lab building at the University of Regina. It will be home to state of the art labs. Built mostly for Science Graduate students. Also will be the new home to all the Science departments.

New RCMP Museum at the RCMP grounds.

New STC (bus company) headquarters in downtwon Regina. Right across from the Casino. Prime spot.

This seniors complex just went up in downtown. Complete with parkade and patio/garden on top.

Name change to Taylor Field complete with new additions.

As well there are rumours of a new hotel going up downtown across from the Casino, as well as empty spaces being converted to condos downtown. A lot more resedential these days in downtown.

That's all for now.
Just wondering,............where did you get the info that a 50,000 seat stadium was ever planned to be built in 2000?

Apparently, they've planned for that. I guess the development in the southwest will take place without restricting the airport.

As for the Lewvan, they have talked about upgrading that for years. So I think it will eventually get done. In fact one of the hopeful mayors in the upcoming election has that as part of his campaign.

Was just going through some pics I'd taken in December; I thought ppl might enjoy this one - it makes a great wallpaper.

You can see 5 downtown buildings in this...Conexus Plaza, McCallum Hill Centre Tower II, BMO (reflected in MHCTII), FCC (just a sliver), and the newly retrofitted unnammed Fed Gov't Building.

Has Regina ever proposed PRT or LRT? I remember seing a plan a while ago in a Canadian planning book, from 1974 that mentioned rapid transit. I know the population is still on the small side for a system to be viable (along with Saskatoon) however has it been mentioned, or at least talk of saving corridors? Does anyone have a rail map of Regina for example that has the existing CP/CN corridors?

I've never heard of any talk of that sort of transit in Regina, no.

Right now it wouldn't be viable. Our roads are layed out fairly well. We have the ring road which circles the entire city and doesn't take more than 15 minutes to get anwhere in most cases. Our bus routes are pretty bad though. They could use a revamp.

Part of the plan also called for the construction of a bedroom community on Wascana Creek NW of the existing city. Any maps though?
