What were the clues again?

3 projects, 2 downtown, one not, 2 substantial height?

If that’s accurate then this could be “one downtown that is not substantial height”

That one would be impressive if it is a real proposal. That appears to be on the of the Workers Compensation parking lot. I think we have all heard the storeys of “ it will be a cold day in hell when the WCB relinquishes their parking.”

Are those renders real proposals? There are some very impressive looking buildings pictured on Graham, where there are currently surface parking lots, in the CentrePlan2050 documents, too, but I assumed they were "aspirational".

Portage & Fort - former CWB Canadian Western Bank location but empty for a few years, has the "for sale / for lease" sign gone and theres activity inside (windows are papered up). great news if a Portage Ave site can have new tennants. Anything would be good!

I would not hold your breath. National Bank bought CWB last week, so it's likely just being taken off the market until they assess all their new assets.

I wonder what they will do with all the office space they are buying. Convert to residential? That's an expensive endeavor...especially when they have bought so much space already.

It said they'll be moving staff down there and looking for tenants.

We chatted about this in the other thread. Seems like they want to invest in real estate and be the landlord. Good long term vision for them IMO.

They basically own the SE corner of P&M now.
The other buildings down Main St.
The Henry location.

Along with the developments in Selkirk and Roxy Lanes on Henderson.

A lot going on.

Does anyone know how much staff/space Bell takes up ion these budlings.

They likely will never be gone completely as the network is based in the building along Portage E IIRC. But the corporate offices and such seem to be on the downturn. Whatever happened to Bell Western Canada Headquarters?? lol

Article in the Freep about downtown. According to the Biz, Q1 24 was the first time since the pandemic that more businesses opened than closed downtown. Definitely a good sign but there's still lots of work to do.

Good to see. I just did a downtown stroll a few days ago to try to see it as a visitor might. It was during the day, but I had zero negative interactions, and I made a point to stroll north Portage, the exchange, etc.

It also had a bit more of a "residential" feeling to the area. people walking their dogs, riding bikes, etc., and not just around The Forks.

I've noticed that a lot more too. I live in West Broadway and work downtown so I'm there almost every day. Especially on the South end near Assiniboine and in the Exchange, there's people at all hours. It's nice to see the Legislature grounds being used so much more now.

Not to say negative interactions dont happen, but I've worked or transferred buses to university through downtown for 20 years and have never had any negative interactions. I've been asked for change (seems less often recently) and see people passed out (more often recently, especially in the sky walks) but have never felt unsafe at any time. Personally feel that if you're polite to people and aren't a hot head it's fairly easy to avoid any issues. Big caveat that I'm a man and fairly tall.

That dog park at Bonnycastle park is absolutely bustling every time I go by which is always evenings & weekends. I distinctly remember all the suburbanites I know groaning about how it was such a waste of time and Bowman was so out to lunch because "nobody has dogs downtown".

We live a stone’s throw from downtown near Arlington and spend as much time downtown as we can. Trying to do our part and spend time and money there. It’s going to keep getting better slowly.

ongoing work inside the fyxx on broadway. the signs are still up on the facade so makes one wonder if it's still gonna be a coffee shop or they just haven't gotten around to taking them down yet. good to see ANYTHING going on for that bleak street.

Its still listed for sale by Square Meter Reality but the agent may not have refreshed her web page listings so it could be sold.

Wasn't fyxx like a typical 8-2 café expressly meant for office workers? That is a dead concept in this day and age.
