NYC was hit by 2 or 3 different *massive* blizzards last month. I don't know if there are any scheduled to hit, but I would think that this month will not run into that problem again.

I would assume that means when they start rising. They've just completed the base. When the office floors start rising, we'll see about that.

This is pure conjecture, but maybe there's a transfer floor from the base to the rest of the tower?

The transfer floor would be the 2nd.

The south crane is jumping so expect core steel later this week.

I think the aparent delay is due to finishing up things that can't be seen from the cams, like welding column splices. (and the weather)

Worker Falls in a Hole at Ground Zero, FDNY Prevented From Entering WTC Site

Emergency personnel rushed to Ground Zero Monday after a worker fell 20 feet into a hole and injured himself, officials said.

The FDNY received a call at 1:36 p.m. saying a worker had fallen in a hole at the Freedom Tower construction site, an FDNY official said. The worker fell 20 feet from the fourth or fifth floor of the tower, a firefighter on the scene said.

But when firefighters arrived outside the construction pit, the Port Authority prevented them from accessing the site, said FDNY spokesman Frank Dwyer.

Instead, Port Authority workers handed the injured man over to firefighters and EMS outside the construction scene, the FDNY said.

He was transported to Bellevue with head, neck and back injuries, said the FDNY.

On these two renderings of the tower there are three structural columns on each side which are quite visable behind the glass. Does anyone know why these only appear at the top portion of the tower and not any lower?

Also, why there is an area of six floors that have a different type of glass that appears more transparent?

As for the first, it may be structural support, it may just be to spice up the top of the building a bit like the base has its own style. Maybe Zensteeldude has an official answer.

As for the second, I assume you mean the six floors directly in the center of the render, which is where the vantage point of the rendering is from..... you can see those floors straight through (minus the core) while floors above and blow the vantage are simply blocked by the viewing angle.

I think those are mech floors and have ventilation grills instead of glass.

Accident at Freedom Tower site adds fuel to Ground Zero feud between Port Authority, city

A Bronx hardhat was seriously injured when he plunged nearly two stories inside the Freedom Tower on Monday - sparking a flareup in the ongoing feud between the city and the Port Authority over access to Ground Zero.

Jose Jerez, 28, was working on a doorway 100 feet above street level when he plummeted about 14 feet, landing on a plywood floor inside the skyscraper-to-be, Port Authority officials said.

The Port Authority, which owns and has sole jurisdiction over the former World Trade Center site, dispatched its own police and emergency responders, who reached Jerez "within a minute or two" of his fall, said spokesman Steve Coleman.

The first FDNY unit to reach Ground Zero, Engine 10, arrived at the site's northern end, along Vesey St., but was not permitted entry by the Port Authority, FDNY sources said.

A short time later, six members of the FDNY's Squad 18 unit arrived at the western edge of Ground Zero and were allowed to assist in removing Jerez from the site, the FDNY sources said.

Port Authority rescuers lifted Jerez out from inside the building in a wire basket and used a hoist to lower him to the ground. An FDNY ambulance took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition, FDNY sources said.

While the rescue was unfolding, several additional FDNY units joined Engine 10 outside the Vesey St. entrance but also were kept at bay.

Officials said an FDNY battalion chief fumed when told the Freedom Tower could not handle the 50 or 60 additional firefighters who showed up.
