That would be under 3 weeks. I will be shocked if even a 1/2 of the building is ready for move in. It still looks like it needs a couple of months to finish completion.

I'm sure there is still tons of work that needs to be done past September; I could only imagine the headache it would be for students wanting to study when all they here are drills and hammers going on in the background all day long.

I've been driving past this thing after every shift, and while yes I'm shocked at how fast they are progressing, I just can't see them having it close to finished for September.

I think they'll reach partial occupancy by then, but yes, final occupancy likely isn't until the January term at the earliest.

You can actually see from the street that a lot of the units already have desks and furniture in them. But the rest of the building looks to be far from complete.

Hopefully they keep a few floors worth of buffer between occupied floors and floors still under construction so the students can sleep and study in peace!

It won't matter, when they drill or hammer into the structure of these buildings you can hear it multiple floors away. They'll just be told to deal with it.

Students

Talked to two students that moved in a few days ago they said no noises after 5. There are 5 floors with students in residence now

However, there will be more graduate-level international students this year than in previous years, said spokesperson Wade Hemsworth. To accommodate them, the university is set to open part of its new graduate residence at 10 Bay St. S., adding 250 beds this fall and another 350 in January.

Maybe Big "Haul" as an ode to the impressive revenue producing aspects of project.

Not sure if this was discussed before, but it looks like there will be a little store in the Mac building. From their site they say its a cashierless grocery where you use an app to enter the store.

I had figured there would be some kind of retail component here even though it wasn't mentioned in the site plan. McMaster loves restaurants and retail on it's campus. I always joke that McMaster has the best selection of franchise coffee in the city. There's a Williams, Second Cup, I think 3 or 4 Tim Hortons and I believe 2 Starbucks on Campus. Not to mention a couple other cafes run by students.

Wow. For a building that isn't actually that tall, it looks absolutely MASSIVE from the street. Could be because the main entrance is right at the busiest corner with virtually no setback. Really helps set the big city vibe.

It's quite cool to think that there is still at least one more Mac building that is going to squeeze it's way into that second photo.

....and perhaps up to four more builds in total in that exact shot. Wonder who owns the Bay/Main Site (sure they could make a bit more off their surface parking lot!

Love the before/after photo btw - thanks

Isn't that just owned by Darko?

Also someone mentioned that they heard McMaster bought the lot at Market and Bay?

From the picture above, there are four sites that will and could have proposals

1) directly left (south) of Homewood Suites is a mystery to me, surface lot ready to go
2) directly right (north) on Homewood Suites and left of Phase 1 of Mac is Phase 2 / Second Tower of Mac - not sure when that will start
3) Vrancor Tower, West of Mac Phase 1 Tower currently U/C
4) Surface lot on south east corner of Bay and King, perhaps owned by Mac as well (used to be the Board of Ed parking lot, and now I guess it is for Mac's School of Medicine.

There is a noticeable difference in foot traffic at this intersection ever since the students moved in. And that's only half the expected occupancy when it's done? Good stuff, especially because that intersection used to be a bit weird at times.
