I like Don Taylors idea of playing The Benny Hill Show theme every time the Canucks score. It would drive the Predators batty.

The only reason the game was a snoozefest (and I actually did fall asleep) is because Vancouver so utterly dominated the Preds. This is what the #1 team in the league looks like, with great puck control, clean hits, good steals, and hemming the other guys in their own zone.

The only reason it wasn't a 15-0 blowout was because of Rinne. Much like Corey Crawford for Chicago, it was the goalie who kept his team in the game at all. Seriously, that guy has some sweet moves and a wicked glove hand.

Now, to keep that pressure up for another three games or so...

It wasn't nearly as exciting as the Chicago games, but I would love for the Canucks to win in 4-5 games just like that. Notice that there were no injuries and the Canucks did not run out of energy. It will be huge if the Canucks can get through the rest of this series just like last night, and then be rejuvinated for a punishing series with Detroit or San Jose.

Some Nashville Predator fans made a video mocking the Canucks and Canada. It's funny:

2nd OT about to start.. glad that this is a Saturday night game and not a weeknight. I wonder how much longer they'll keep Don Cherry up.

It was a poor showing by Our Boys last night, considering that Nashville led in every catagory save penalties. But Rinne is something else. A few of those shots, especially the Sedin/Samulsson attempt in 1OT would've gotten past any other netminder.

I honestly believe they should've handed out the Vezna last night instead of running the risk of awarding it to the wrong goalie down the road...

Another ridiculously flukey tying goal by Nashville, and the Canucks end up losing thanks to some more terrible play by the Sedins. I don't know why AV won't just make Higgins/Kesler/Raymond the de facto first line, they've been way better offensively and defensively. Edler was terrible too, and still finished with more minutes than any other Canucks D. Baffling.

yeah, the question is who to root for in detroit/sf. ideally, the series is settled in 7, to max out fatigue and risk of injury (hehe). now, being down here in san francisco, i personally would prefer a van/sj contest. however, i think objectively, sj is a better team and, thus, i say it would be better to see detroit in the conference finals. that said, a detroit that came back from a 3-0 deficit is a dangerous team, as the habs learned last year, and i'm not sure it would be for the best that vancouver face them.

all told, these considerations would be out the window if vancouver had played more solidly and i had confidence that they wouldn't just fold, but those blowout losses to chicago scared the shit out of me, even if that team had no business being in 8th place, with such amazing play. even if they did find a way to win, which is the hockey trope that i guess really does matter most, i really hope that the guys step it up a few notches facing their toughest test in the conference finals.

Either way, the Canucks will be facing a human goaltender, rather than Crawford who was standing on his head, and Rinne who is probably the best in the league.

Yeah, Rinne really was amazing, and very frustrating, hehe.

Suggestion to City Hall

Just now, there was a newsclip on the radio of the mayor. He said that the city is considering setting-up public screens to show the next round of the Stanley Cup, but they're having problems identifying locations to do this, so "if anybody has any ideas, please call my office" (he said).

Remember several years back when the Futureshop/Winners building was going up on Robson/Granville? An *integral* part of that development, when it was finished, was that the developers wanted to hang advertising screens on the building. I believe it was a condition of the city's granting of permission for the outdoor advertising space, but I believe they were *required* by the city, to use the screens for public and community information.

I have yet to see these screens show anything other that advertising - although I wouldn't be surprised if they run some community notices at 5am on a Sunday, or whatever.

HOWEVER, would this not be the *perfect* location and opportunity to use those screens properly? Close down the junction, allow people to congregate, and show the games on those huge freakin' screens!?!

Sides of the Sears building facing Robson Square, at the intersection right outside GM place where the station is, One on the waterfront near the cauldron.

On the Sears building, the ice would look brown rather than white.
