Driftwood is a really interesting situation. There are a lot of people with a ton of money who own very large tracts of land. Very little ranching actually takes place in the area.. mostly just people with a lot of land... so it has a better than average chance of lasting a few more years in it's current state.

Camp Ben is also going nowhere, and my great uncle owns most of the land next to it and I don't see him selling anytime soon. He hates city people with a passion.

As far as the country being "boring".. I find living in the country a fair bit more exciting than living in big box strip center suburban hell that it has turned into.

I'll either live my entire life in the core of really cool cities (of which Austin qualifies) or in the country. I'll never ever buy a house in the burbs.
i guess i see what you're saying. and i'm not a country person myself but i can see why people would love that lifestyle... even my parents live out in the country.

i wouldn't live out in the suburbs either.

I'm just curious, what's up with that large dirt pit right next to the power plant and the highway? It appears that there is some construction activity taking place.

I sort of feel that way. I love the outdoors and nature, but still, the idea of living out in the country kind of gives me the creeps. I don't see eye to eye on politics and things with most of the people out there, and then there's other things. My cousin lives in Cedar Creek on 2 acres. Just recently his poodle was attacked and killed by two neighbor dogs. There was also a friend of my mom who had 4 of her dogs attacked and killed by a swarm of killer bees. She lived out in the country down around San Antonio. The bees were living in the attic of an abandoned building on their neighbor's lot. The guy knew they were there and didn't do anything about them. From what I heard, he thought the whole situation was a big joke. One of the dogs crawled under a storage shed to escape, and died under there. I have three small dogs of my own, I'd rather not worry about some idiot neighbor's dog attacking mine or dangerous wildlife putting them on the menu.

That's cool. I don't blame your uncle. Although, most urban minded city people live in the city to protect rural wild areas. It's the suburban people who don't give a damn. It also depends on the place, though. There are some rural areas where the people do love and protect the environment, even though they live there. And then there's ones in other places who trash it.

City Council already approved that a couple of weeks ago.

You opened a Pandora's box. We could also have:

Sandra Bullock Drive - a newly single lane road
Michael Dell Avenue - an extremely expensive avenue maintained by a
poorly paid crew

Here are a few skyline shots I took this past weekend...

The following pics were taken from the Steiner Ranch Steak House which sits high on a ridge overlooking Lake Travis. It's one of the few spots where both downtown and the lake are simultaneously visible...

Here's downtown peeking above the hills of Westlake and the radio/tv antenna farm.

And if you turn around, Lake Travis is in full view (taken about 1 minute after the shot above)

The Oasis

Speaking of Lake Travis, there is a major expansion underway at the nearby Oasis

This is a massive expansion (relatively speaking)... includes a large parking garage

Nice pics, Mopacs. Those show just how close in height the W and 360 are. And thanks for grabbing that lake view.

Check out Mueller. Lots of new streets there named after famous Austinites.

Great shots LSM! I'm very pleased with how the W/residences turned out. The dark gray glass cladding really contrasts well with the rest of the skyline.

RE: Oasis. They are adding several new restaurants and a parking garage. Dick Clark;s office is designing the restaurants. I know it includes an
"Uncle Billy's", don't recall what else. On the architect's open studio tour last month they had the designs out to see!

Thanks to all posting pics of late. I have been waiting for a new SL shot to use as my desktop picture. Sorry to say none of the recent ones were quite what I wanted to take the current one down but they were all very nice shots...I'll keep you posted of what becomes of my DT.

Great stuff Mopacs & LSM!! Mopacs, I think I've seen that view with the SL behind the antenna farm from Steiner Ranch Steak House.

The Oasis just keeps going strong and always a wait. However, I've never had anything good to eat there.

LSM your pics of Zilker reminds me, it still hasn't recovered fully from ACL.

Thanks again guys!!
