Most Canadian skylines (my city's miniature one as well) have one or two buildings so offensively ugly that I just can't get past it...

But there are clusters and view planes that I really love....

Montreal with that beautiful riverside building in the foreground and the skyline behind is flawless.

Quebec City from Orleans is gorgeous.

St. John's from Signal Hill is the best angle (you can't see the blank side of the old Fortis Building from there).

Any shot of Toronto where you can see the older bank buildings is great.

Calgary looks wonderful from the air when you're facing the Bow's side of downtown.

Halifax looks best from the air too, but the view from Dartmouth with that wharf building out in the harbour is great too.

I like any angle of Vancouver where you can see the mountains, especially the cool shots where it looks like Mount Baker is about to fall on the city from space. I also like street-level shots of Vancouver with the skyline behind, taken in the older areas. I don't think outsiders realize Vancouver has such areas, I certainly didn't.

Love the shots of Edmonton's skyline that show how impossibly long it is.

Personnally, I love Montreal's skyline. But then again, my opinion is biased

I believe Montreal is doing well economically, being a majorily french-speaking city in an all-anglophone country and continent. Our downtown still has 7 skyscrapers over 150 meters with two more under construction. Plus, we have an office tower under construction with 3 more over 100 meters that are proposed (750 Peel, QdS Tower and 900 de Maisonneuve)... The future is looking good for our downtown.

Besides, I would rather have a large and dense downtown with two 200m+ towers and a dozen 130m+ towers, than have two 250m+ towers and a few small towers, like Charlotte or Cleveland...

That Bank of America building in Charlotte would look good in downtown Montreal.

Both Charlotte and Cleveland have some amazing pomo towers. It may not be dense but I find Charlotte's to be one of the nicest skylines aesthetically speaking.

I know that, but height limitation is the most often heard complain about Montreal's skyline. Anyway, even though I appreciate Montreal's skyline for what it is, I also know very well that it is not the city's strongest quality and I'm not loosing any sleep over that. At this point, no Canadian city can rival Toronto. I mean, Toronto is on its way to surpass even Chicago. Montreal will never be a contender.

I was talking about density. I also find the BoA Corporate Center and the Duke Energy Center stunning.

True, Montreal has a lot of concrete and very little glass towers. That is due to the fact that nearly nothing serious was being developped until last year in Downtown, but this is slowly changing. Le V is made of glass and integrates well with the surrounding buildings, and the Deloitte Tower will also be made of glass. Also, L'Avenue should bring an interesting new feature to our skyline.

I like Montreal because I feel it does the best on the fronts of architecture, density, and composition with pretty good geography. I mean a few cities have more density, but they tend to have a very table-top set up that causes the towers to get too lost (like say Ottawa), where as Montreal seems to do very good at giving just enough space. (I think Winnipeg might actually be my 2nd favourity, it has a similar enough overall rise to it.)

For residential towers? Maybe in a decade or two. For office towers? I dunno...have you seen the latest Chicago thread? The New York guy who posted it said Chicago felt even more monumental to him than New York, and I can totally see where he's coming from.

Toronto's got it goin' on, but you can't turn back time. If you know what I mean.

I'm glad he posted it, never saw it before and easily one of the best shots of Montreal I've seen. The city looks fantastic there, and you get a great view of some of the construction sites and density. Right-click, save!
