Al Fresco on Super Saturday, June 8th, is the Centennial Street Party this year.

Things kick off with the DECL pancake breakfast at 830, followed by the market and then....

Things get swinging at 4:30 with a BBQ, street performers, salsa lessons, a live band and MORE! Make your way down the Promenade to learn about the history our Heritage buildings, and at 6pm there will be a balloon release and official celebration. At 8pm, the party moves indoors to Mercer Tavern!

^ Is this "Centennial Party" the newest iteration of Al Fresco, or is it taking the place of Al Fresco in its cancellation? Is it supposed to be similar to Al Fresco? I've never been to Al Fresco, so I was just wondering.

Long story short, there was volunteer burnout, very high costs and other challenges which resulted in 'al fresco' as we know it being postponed until next year to give people time to reorganize.

A bunch of us didn't want the day to die, so the Philips lofts along with the 104st business assoc and DECL decided to continue the events into the evening in a similar fashion by centering it around the fact that many buildings on the street are turning 100 yrs old.

Many of the events will continue, bbq, food, live music, activities, history walks etc.

Just had a reply from City operations informing me that the Downtown Core has been 'completely swept'. A comment about how construction sites and parked cars may have added to the dirt and or prevented a more complete job...

and there is always the same option we all have in front of our houses - it's called a pushbroom and probably takes less time than taking and forwarding and posting photos...

^ Exactly Ken! I made sure that my boulevard was raked and the sidewalk was swept before the sweepers came, and my two neighbors that had piles of grit left in front of their houses because people failed to move their cars went out afterwards and swept it up themselves!

I guess for some it's just easier to complain rather than actually do something

Photos are from around the westin, rhw, 102st, 100ave, 105st, 99 ave, 104st, 102ave. Core and Mckay.

Let alone many other areas people have told us about.

Omega condo had residents pushing brooms along 99ave to ensure gravel was pushed into the street for street cleaners.

Yes residents and businesses need to step things up, at work we swept our area in april and may, with much of the dust/dirt blowing off to other areas because it was not until last night that 100ave was partially done.

That said, downtown, ie. 97-109st from 97ave-104ave should be done priority 1... simple as that and along with Whyte avenue.

Doing something is inquiring as to why our City does such a piss poor job at keeping our downtown clean. It is disgusting and shows a severe disconnect between policy and operations.

You're simply one voice among thousands demanding that they get the best service for your residential neighborhood.

We're one block south of you.. the sweepers were out in force for two weeks straight. We're in in the same residential neighborhood that you are. Yes the real core should be a priority, but for areas like McKay, wait your turn

Sure, but our 'downtown' includes McKay avenue and should be completed very early on.

We saw them, but they didnt clean anything but the hill on 105st/106st.

It is May 23 and our downtown is not cleaned, unacceptable.

As for the "real" core.. we have the Core Crew out every day, the streets around our complex are pretty good, so obviously they have been done severaltimes.

Maybe the right avenue of complaint is to look at why the cleaning process throughout the whole city is not being done to a certain standard

We border the govt area and CBD, both poorly done, us not done... unacceptable and given the wind/density/pedestrian traffic it should be done far before many other areas simple as that.

Core crew and downtown pride guys are good, but the streets/gutters are bad.

Trying to do both at the same time. Zoning hasn't passed yet... just saying a case can still be made! Write in letters/emails if you feel passionate about this.
