Looks like a storm is developing behind it lol.

I really hope they don't have that country looking mural.

Haven't seen it! Nice effort to decorate what is still a "box".
LOVE THE MURAL!
Its a jockey on a cow! LOL!
.... also like how it is broken up with vertical gardens.
Nice way to break up impact of garage.
Could be kinda fun if they fulfill the vision.

I would think they would put the office on the Comal side.... considering that is accross the street from the White Horse and the Eastern. Hopefully the new residents don't complain about the music at night. Seems easily avoidable.

That pretty girl is riding her bike on the sidewalk. Shame on her!

And check out that rooftop deck atop the parking garage. Skyline views??

I don't mind the mural. It's a decent attempt at hiding the garage.

Whole Foods expansion plans bring curious issues into play

Jan Buchholz
Staff Writer-
Austin Business Journal

The expansion plans for Whole Foods Market Inc. (Nasdaq: WFM) in downtown Austin sparks some interesting questions about the company’s real estate strategy and what companies benefited — or not — as a result.

The Austin American-Statesman reported that the natural foods grocer purchased 524 Lamar Blvd, a retail property across the street from Whole Foods’ flagship store and corporate headquarters. Evidently, the company will operate the retail center with the existing tenants but has long-range plans for razing that property along with the adjacent 1009 W. Sixth St., which it purchased in October 2013.

The global company is growing rapidly and its current roster of 800 headquarters employees could grow to 2,000 in the foreseeable future. The headquarters at 550 Bowie St., which is integrated into the flagship store, is not large enough to handle that growth.

My only problem with the mural is the stereotypical country Texas theme. We are a big city that is rapidly urbanizing, we are not a country Texas town. We aren't even a cowtown like Fort Worth, that mural would make more sense there. A mural would be cool but at least have it Austin themed.

It's a jockey riding a cow. How often do you see that? Kentucky Derby for cows. That mural is hilarious.

I like the idea of the mural too but agree with Jdawg that it needs to not include a cow....what would have to be demolished for this to move forward? We sure do need the units.

The Whole Foods campus plan has many things stirring in my mind, one of which is something I have been already pondering for some time. Being at Whole Foods on Lamar, I'm sometimes thrown by the fact that it's the "flagship" considering it's not much different in appearance than others in the chain. I've been to several in New York that are larger and busier (I know, it's NYC, but still). I think that, if office expansion is on the horizon, they should do this:

Instead of attempting to build a new office tower at the Shoal Creek Walk site...and deal with the CVC...they should build a new, larger and more impressive flagship (with creek-frontage to boot...hello, creekside outdoor dining) on that site, and close up the corner of 5th and Lamar where the current store parking lot is with new office space. This would also allow for integration with the existing central office building, and a potential skyway connection from the offices to the new flagship. To me that makes the most sense.

Also, love the Eastside Village renderings...between Corazon, the Plaza Saltillo plan and this, I'm going to LOVEEE that area in a few years, and I love it already.

Although it's probably just a placeholder for the rendering, I agree it's hilarious and in a way would be a very relevant commentary on Austin's political juxtaposition compared to the rest of Texas. I also enjoy some of the placeholder store names you see on some of these renderings... like "Biff's". Makes me think of another Back to the Future sequel where Biff ends up running a hipster restaurant Kudos to the creative team that worked on that render.

In a town where its favorite four legged creature is a cow named Bevo, this seems quite appropriate, except for the jockey.

It's pretty much a vacant lot expect Cisco's Restaurant which occupies an old 2 story blue building on Comal St. And E. 6th.

I believe this is replacing the Arnold Oil site across from Cisco's.
