Here's a rendering of the residential tower just announced for 48 East Ave:

It's definitely not a signature tower, but it adds density and is better than what's there now:

True dat.

Anybody have a new skyline shot? A couple of buildings are close to topping out.

I kind of like the look of this proposed building. I am glad to see new building plans on this stretch of East Ave. It is basically the back side of Rainey and could support multiple mid rise or high rise buildings.

I wonder whether the Travis County Psych Emergency Services will be redeveloped. It is a 24 hour magnet for homeless folks some of whom have drug issues and others drug/mental health issues. It is in the long one story building at 56 East Ave on the corner above this site. I usually object to relocating a facility like the PES, but I don't think it is the best use of this location. I suppose it can coexist with its neighbors, but it would be nice to find another centrally located spot for this facility. If the Health Dept. remains over in the four story building next to the RBJ Tower across the freeway, maybe PES could relocate there since that site will be redeveloped soon. I am sure the county could make some money selling or leasing the land at 56 Easts Ave to developers.

Ha! I find it pretty funny as soon as we started complaining on how quiet and boring it's been, low and behold, a bunch of exciting stuff pops up. It's like we are being monitored or something lol. I can see now. "Hey the forumers on SSP are getting bored, time to announce a new highrise and get an article written up about construction updates to keep them happy."

Happy 4th of July!

The only thing missing is a new ground breaking of one of the big boys. (Hotel Indigo doesn't count.)

That's a requirement.

Hold up, why did ABJ remove the article? If you click on the link, the article and building rendering are missing.

It still works for me. Are you clicking your mouse or your heels?

It's definitely better than what's there, but that's not a 35-story tower. I count 28 floors and "maybe" 300 feet.

Still, if you look at the base of it it looks like it has zero street interaction.

Seven floors is a pretty big discrepancy. I wonder what's up with that?

I don't know. I thought maybe they meant it was 350 feet, but even that height seems too tall for what the rendering is showing. Of course I would assume this is a preliminary design anyway, but yes, that's quite a discrepancy of heights.

My guess is from what the rendering shows that it'll be shorter than Windsor on the Lake, but taller than Skyhouse. Probably around 300 feet.

I'm guessing they told Jan it was going to be a 28 story apartment building with 7 levels of parking and she misinterpreted that as a 35 story building.

The full article says that 48 East probably won't break ground until 2016.

I don't mind the balconies, and I totally get why they'd want to capitalize on them with that view, but yeah, the base is quite possibly the ugliest one that's been proposed so far, and is unfriendly to pedestrians. The parking garages in the Rainey Street area are getting ridiculous.
