I know!

I'm going to assume they're not done yet and will wait to see if the end result is less awkward. That vertical strip of glass (fake window?) is bigger than I was expecting.

Is this better than a blank wall?

Just curious, but won't these two be the tallest hotels in Halifax, I don't think the Atlantica is as tall and I don't believe anything else is close

I went to the design review committee meeting when these were being presented and the goal was to have them open and ready within a year.

Looking nice. It's strange that they only just refurbed the entry area for the Plaza building a few months back though (not sure if it's even completely finished yet?). Must be some wasted money there!

Brunswick Street looks quite different with the three new towers. It looks much more urban than before (at least from that perspective).

Agree with Fenwick - Brunswick is looking amazing. Can't wait to see the changes for 1881 and the other apartment buildings along the other side.
I still struggle with the facade of the building that you would see coming down Cogswell (in the first photo). But it could be worse I guess...

I'm seeing a lot of that aesthetic around HRM all of a sudden - the black with gray or taupe palette on new or refreshed building exteriors. It beats red brick I guess.

I don't remember seeing a colour rendering before.

I hope that this building will turn out well. The off-white section seems rather bland but maybe the actual precast sections will look better than in the rendering.

I'm assuming that the closer building in this rendering is the tower with apartment rentals as opposed to hotel units? The balconies suggest apartments... could be wrong, though.

Yes, the southern-most building of the three is an apartment complex with 153 units. As far as I know has been no marketing whatsoever of these units. The Silver Birch website makes no mention of it, nor does that of GWL Realty, which is the manager of the complex. In an age when many projects are marketed before the developer even turns a sod, this strikes me as peculiar.

Agreed; I really feel like they have done very little to promote the residential side of the development, which is odd, not only for what you mention (actually renting the things) but also promoting the overall benefit the development has for the downtown.

You'd think they'd be singing the praises of a new major downtown residential development to contributing to the vibrancy of that part of the urban core.

This picture shows white on the balconies while the rendering on Bird's website has it as orange. Anyone know which is more recent or which they are planning on going with?
