i've thought about that— build two high rises with a plaza in between that leads straight from peachtree to the mall entrance.

Thanks Immovable Media!

I'm counting cranes up for the following projects:

Downtown (4)
Courtland St student housing
New legislator deck
College Football HoF
NCCHR

Midtown (4)
GT Advanced Bio something building
100 6th St
131 Ponce
Advanced Proton Therapy

Westside (1)
Elan Westside

Eastside (2?)
Emory Hospital expansion? (is it 2 cranes?)

Buckhead (6?)
5 up at SoB
1 up for Circle Terminus or whatever it's called

Central Perimeter (2)
New Hyatt
New Cox office tower

So at least 19? cranes up around the city? When is the last time there were this many cranes up around the city? 2008?

Right now, there is only one crane at Emory and it is on the West side of Clifton at the old hospital site. They are renovating and expanding the Emergency Room and prepping the old building for the two story bridge that will be built across Clifton. On the Tower Site itself, they start blasting rock this week for the underground parking garage. They will definitely need a second crane for the Tower and perhaps more than one.

I think keeping the 1/3 with the façade is a reasonable resolution.

I live near there and was outraged with the original plans to demolish the whole building. The façade is what is appealing about the building and that is being preserved.

That is right on the edge of a pretty rough area down Spring St and I think the activity and jobs outweigh the worth of the back 2/3 of the building.

359 units on 6 acres - don't expect another Elan Westside (also Greystar). Fuqua's plan also included multifamily on part of the site, if I'm not mistaken. Fuqua's multifamily component by itself may have been a better fit, had it not come with Walmart and surface parking on the remainder of the site.

Has this been discussed here?

Is Tivoli Planning Development Project at 13th Street?

Comments are unreal. Apparently there is already just the perfect amount of density near Piedmont Park and anymore would create an urban nightmare.

If you don't want to live in a bustling area, don't live in Midtown! Who on earth decides to move to the city center for 'quiet' ?!

Hotel project proposed for symphony center site
June 7, 2013 Atlanta Business Chronicle
Douglas Sams and Amy Wenk, Staff Writers

Quote:
Developers have begun pitching ideas for Midtown’s “symphony center” site at 14th Street, including a new proposal for a 400-room hotel.

Architect Perkins+Will Inc. is part of a development team that recently presented the plan to Midtown Alliance staff, according to people familiar with the proposal. Real estate development consultant Macauley+Schmit, a longtime partner of Egbert Perry’s The Integral Group LLC, is also part of the same team.

Inman Park project ready to break ground
June 7, 2013 Atlanta Business Chronicle
Amy Wenk

A $46 million mixed-use development is set to break ground this summer in the heart of Inman Park, with the promise of more trendy restaurants and retailers for one of Atlanta’s hippest neighborhoods.

A joint venture between JPX Works LLC and South City Partners LLC should start construction on the project by August. It will include 200 luxury apartments and almost 40,000 square feet of retail.

A loss

[QUOTE=DetroitMan;6156546]Hotel project proposed for symphony center site

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/print...hotel-project-proposed-for-symphony.html

What a great loss that the exciting architectural efforts of Calatrava are now lost and we are nowhere near a new symphony hall. Just returned from Montreal where they have built a very interesting, acoustically excellent, architecturally inspiring symphony hall (with an excellent symphony, but no better than than the ASO!). I have no objections to a new hotel and residences, but they are far from what could have been for this location. Atlanta could use some innovative architecture.

A few years ago I was talking to someone involved with ASO and Woodruff and it seems like that site had been long abandoned for the symphony. At the time, they were considering building over the Marta Arts Center Station... I have no idea what the status on the project is for now, but at least the development of this lot does not mean that a new symphony plan has no home.

I agree. Actually, the proceeds of the sale of this site may actually improve the chances of something moving forward for the ASO.

Credit to L.Arch for leaking us this rumor a week ahead of time. I'm hopeful that means we'll get a tower at North / Peachtree as well like was mentioned.

^^^Well, I say big whoop. I was expecting something concrete, not a "discussion". I know of another prominent site in Midtown owned where "discussions" are taking place for hotel and/or multifamily/condo development, and 2 hotels brands are interested and several major developers are interested. Of course I can't say anything more, but all that's taking place now so far is a DISCUSSION. It doesn't make it a major news story. Any good development site in these times is going to have a discussion taking place - I think it's stupid that they're trying to make some public thing about it with the ABC and "involving" Perkins & Will, lol. This is not big news until a hotel is signed on, a partnership agreement is drafted between developers, a lender is brought on board, a fully baked rendering is released (THAT's when it should be released), etc etc.

Agreed. I'd say 85% of discussions end up never happening.

As an aside note, it is completely unethical for people to talk about confidential projects on this forum before they are public. If I found out that an architect of other consultant was leaking information, I'd fire them on the spot, or find the staff person that was and fire him/her.

Fair enough. I do wonder if this isn't Mandarin poking around for a hotel site considering the proximity to their former proposal.
