RoC gets bonus points just for having a Hawks shirt in the window. Instant credibility with me.

Exactly. Although I love the percieved life these two places add to the block. These along with the 20k sf of retail in 77 12th could go a long way in making that area more lively, not to mention the additional residential units the new developments have added. Hopefully we get some more quality development at 12th and Midtown sooner than later. I'd love to see another residential tower behind 77 12th if it added a grocer that everyone seems to be chatting about.

A pity about Lenox Sq. I don't understand why they don't bring it up to the street with some kind of grand foyer off Peachtree - even if it mostly just space. They have done little to correct the perceived distance between Lenox and Phipps, which IMO should be highly linked - especially given the same owners. It seems like a no brainer to me- at least develop a major store, e.g. Dillard's on the corner of Lenox and Peachtree to visually connect the malls. It remains a mystery to me - guess I am not a businessman.

In addition, NC has a number of competing cities fro growth, particularly the Raleigh area. The N.C.growth will be distributed across them. Atlanta is alone in its growth area.

The article is akin to throwing a rock and hiding your hand. We do not need to discuss another city...either good or bad...in order to uplift or put down Atlanta's construction projects. There is simply too much going on to NOT have enough local material to discuss.

Now...let's get back to construction topics.

I think RoC looks GREAT!!! Its nice to have some current modern presence fronting Peachtree St.

^ You are right, Dad. We never compete with Charlotte or any other city for jobs or projects. And there is no HSR being proposed between the two cities. I wasted 3 seconds skimming over that post.

Cafe Intermezzo also has nothing to do with construction. There's many things I enjoy reading about here beyond the status of a handful of skyscrapers. It's pointless to post on the sub-boards because there is nobody there.

The only way to do that would be to add some more stores to bring it to Peachtree. The facelift looks really nice and definitely will look nice driving up/down Peachtree, and for those who think its all about walking, it is going to look just as nice.

You have to cut Lenox a little slack. 60 years ago it was a suburban style mall in a fairly rural enclave. Buckhead grew up around it; it wasn't plopped down in the middle of a city.

As far as its owners expanding it - they are in the business to make money. If they felt it was economically feasible to bring the facade north to Peachtree and attempt further connections to Phipps, I bet they would do just that.

I think more likely would be for Lenox to put up a hotel in a portion of the parking lot. The thing I think that would cause reservation is the blockage of visibility to the mall itself.

Construction Update June - Round 3

Midtown:
Atlanta Soka Gakkai Buddhist Center: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5xf03NTFMI
Tucked between 17th & 18th St in Atlantic Station, crews have begun laying the foundations for the Atlanta Soka Gakkai Buddhist Center

13th Street Tivoli Apartment Tower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_EmOsNRg5Y
This is the site of a proposed 252-unit apartment tower. The zoning meeting will take place in a few hrs Downtown on Trinity Ave. If anyone attends, please fill me in!

Crum & Forster Building: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqAVOt-K1OE
Soon to be demolished and partially incorporated into the computing center below.

GA Tech High Performance Computing Center: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzqYhqKt9rI
This is the site of the proposed 24-floor tower.

Downtown:
Capital Parking Deck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VcGxqXO54s
Apparently lawmakers are getting larger parking spots along with a brand new deck.

Auburn Pointe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK4EJutfIg0
Builders have begun work on what looks like the final phase of this development. A low-rise but very nice infill in a neighborhood that could use it.

National Center for Civil & Human Rights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euvVmJ_58ZU
Crews continue building retaining walls. They look different than ones i've seen on other sites, from what I hear developers are making this a "green building." The crane is up.

One12Courtland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma17aeXEE0k
The main elevator shaft is up to the ~3rd floor.

College Football Hall Of Fame : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWFqWwGDMo0
The crane has been erected and foundation work continues. Take notice, it looks like the existing access road to the GA WCC will stay in tact.

East Atlanta:
BOHO 4W: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhXF9ch_wkk
The building closest to the park is up to the 5th floor. The parking dek across the street is the same size. For the most part it will be hidden from street view.

Ponce City Market: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNCPnY1UQy4
The underground parking deck is up the ground level. Crews continue replacing every single window pane.

Krog Street Market: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtE0CiWH-0g
A door was visibly open and I filmed the progress inside. WOW! This very unique space still has a long way to go. It looked the same 6-weeks ago so either there isn't that much left to do or the opening date will be pushed back. Other than the demolished building on the corner of Krog and Irwin little else has visibly changed. Check out the chair in the opening seen. It's a bit creepy...

AMLI Ponce Park: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKbafDOsmD0
Crews are laying the foundations. Judging by the progress at BOHO 4W, I bet the building will be up in ~6 weeks

Decatur:
315 West Ponce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHscoJg3z2Q
The footprint of the proposed building will be smaller than that of the corresponding parking deck judging by the space available along Ponce. No wonder local residents are iffy. If I lived along Montgomery St I'd be opposed to living across the street from a SkyHouse style deck.

Feel free to spread these any all construction videos around the web! Curbed, Saporta, Facebook, your own blog! Enjoy...

The space along Ponce is small, but that is not the entire building footprint. Personally, I love that this project will expand and connect some of the contiguous retail in downtown Decatur. The deck is a little large, but it will be mostly hidden from view.

Great update by the way. Loved them all as usual!

Now THIS is constructive forum material

Great work, IM. You're going to be busy for a good while to come.

Novare's 6th St project looks so familiar to Skyhouse, maybe it should be named DejaView (drum riff goes here).

All of these condos in every city look alike, look at Miami. Be happy for the footprint.

Too bad they have to demolish the Crum and Foster building from 1927. Not the prettiest but still historic.
