It probably helped that the PMB gantry didn't have to travel through residential and business districts so it could be relocated during that project.

North Road update: the gantry crane is now above the final gap and is in position to lift segments. They may start lifting up pieces tonight! I guess we'll find out in the morning.

With university students back in school, the front of the train is always packed so I can't get a good seat for video

I did capture a (somewhat shaky) video out the side window this morning, which I'll call Bridging the Gap.

How about video from the back of the train at the end of the day?

Your link requires signing in but I also saw the status of the final segment today. At 8:18 am, the segment pieces are lifted but not connected. I don't know if the weather would delay the process but man! Its almost done!

Thanks, I've fixed the link.

It was definitely cool to see all the segment pieces hanging there for that final connecting span this morning

Sounds like there needs to be an SSP flash mob this weekend to celebrate the final connection.

Bring your brollies, lawn chairs, and whatever else you need to wait for the final connection.

Oh, and something bubbly too?

No kidding, eh? Perhaps we should meet up at the Vancity or White Spot parking lot or something.

One thing for sure, as of 7:30ish pm or so, all but two pieces of the final segment have been connected. Should be done by tomorrow for sure.

I drove by just now, and all the segments have been connected. Amazing.

It was only the end of May when it was passing over Cottonwood Ave. and only four months later, it's reached Gatineau.

*Wipes tears of joy from his eye*

After over 20 years of waiting, Skytrain has finally been physically extended to Coquitlam (via Burquitlam Station). Such a beautiful site and I'm so glad it has finally happened.

Granted there is still a lot of work to be done, but the fact of the matter is, the guideways are now in place ready to finally expand the network. Short of an asteroid strike, there is nothing that would stop this project now!

So when is the official opening happening?

Is it possible it may complete and finish early?

There's still a lot of work to do, especially with the tunnel! The official date is Summer 2016 but I wouldn't be surprised to see it opening in late spring or so, barring any further accidents.

Track testing should commence sometime by late 2015 given the current timetable, or maybe earlier if EGRT is able to get the guideways, the tunnel, and tracks laid out sooner.

This is certainly great news!

Any word if the line will open all at once, or in two stages?
